Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I had my wisdom teeth (all 4) cut out when I was 18 years old. I rested the 1st day but felt ok after that.

Ozzy, both my daughters were at bootcamp (just a couple of weeks apart) and both had there wisdom teeth out. It was just a couple of weeks into BC. Hope this helps. The only thing is Sara had all four pulled where as Mary only had two. Now she's due to have the other two pulled next week. Two days before Thanksgiving. Marys widom teeth were really hurting her a month or so before she left for BC but she just waited because she heard they will pull them out. The couple of days they give them after helped them a lot, there pretty slep deprived. If anyone has anymore questions they need answered just ask.

Ozzy you may want to post your question on the main Dep group or on the New Mom group they may have a bit more experience.

My son's wisdom teeth are bothering him, that is my dilemma. Should I pay for it and have it done before he leaves or wait until they really really really hurt him and have it done in bc. I was not aware that he would have 2 days off for recovery. Has anyone's son or daughter had them out in bc? Thanks so much.

I think we could use a navy bubble here!
Comment by skell456 (AO wife) on November 18, 2010 at 10:35am
They should issue Navy Bubbles. That would be great!! I couldn't imagine going all the way to boot camp and then being sent home. Why would that happen???? I couldn't even think about something happening while he was waiting. He would be so very sad. His recruiter told us that they have to have their wisdom teeth pulled and that they get 2 to 3 days rest there depending on how bad it was. I had all four of mine pulled at the same time. It's not that bad. It feels like they are pushing on them instead of pulling. After care is easy. Now if they have to cut them out I'm not sure how that is. Have a great day everyone!!!

A big HELLO to you all!! I read somewhere on this wonderful site about the waiver for wisdom teeth and the their (recruit's) experience, Try the search bar like Google and see what happens. Are the DEP'S who got the phone call SO's at all? Just wondering, remember the king size bed?, before we move it in and up it would be nice to know.....J.K. It seems with this journey you never really know much until it has happened. I am so looking forward to the Christmas Holiday Season with our son home still until 3.22 but if duty calls so be it! A beautiful day wished to all of you...

I read on one of the other groups if they have the teeth pulled before they leave and have any problems at all then you have to get a waiver before you leave, my vote would be if he can hold off to let the Navy handle it and they get the two days of rest.
Comment by tks4 on November 17, 2010 at 9:17pm
My daughter wants to wait until bc because she figures she would need the 2 days of rest they give after having your wisdom teeth removed.
Comment by Ozzy on November 17, 2010 at 8:04pm
Just wanted to add that we do not have dental insurance, that's why I am not sure if I should just pay for it and let my son recover at home. Or have the Navy pay for it and let him recover in boot camp. Thanks for any opinions.
