Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Gina and jdmom my daughter is going to be OS also. She gave me a sheet that tells exactly what she will be doing. I used to carry it in my purse so that I could explain it to my friends.LOL She got this paper the day she enlisted and I made a copy. This is the only part of her job I will know about because this job requires a security clearance. I will post some of the info if you would like.

I have read a lot of posts here that say the best thing is to keep the letters light hearted as to not to make them any more homesick... my son is a huge sports fan and baseball season will just be starting when they leave so I think that might be a good page filler.

when my best friend went into the Air Force earlier this year most of my letters were light sometimes I'd just tell him what was on the radio, or what the weather here was like, just some normalcy and not too much about missing him or memories, he said they were great letters, lol I just didn't know what to write about...

foreverMom my daughter is in 11th grade so she won't leave for another year. She is talking about going away for school but most of the schools on her list are within a few hours. I still have my middle son(19) home. He works full time and goes to school part time...he is still trying decide his career path.

It is amazing how time is flying now but those 8-9 weeks will most likely drag.
Gina I agree with foreverMom if you want to make the road trip do, I would bet just making the plans will help pass the time. K9kids can be great traveling companions. My Aunt drove from New Jersey to Alaska with her two dogs as her travel mates.

I plan to fill my free time taking my 16yr old daughter on college tours, it will be a great time to do the open houses for the schools she is considering. Then I will also have some go material when writing my son at bc nothing to serious.

jdmom - we are about 3.5 hrs away from "home" and we have 2 k9 kids, so they make it hard to travel lol, they are my sanity so I'm hoping that they will remain that during boot camp. There may be visitors on the weekends so that will be nice. As long as nothing changes A school will be there. C school may be there or CA or VA. If he doesn't ship out early, he will be graduating the same time I'm done with the Spring semester and I'm headed that way! Me the dogs in a Uhaul with car in tow, it's going to be an adventure of a lifetime, I think it's a 15 hr drive...everyone thinks I'm crazy, but after 9 weeks I'll do anything to be near him! He took me to a DEP meeting yesterday, there was a new "future sailor" and his job is OS, I was not familiar with it either! But like you said if your son is happy and excited, then that is all that matters! this site seems to be decent on info http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/os.htm that's where we read up about ratings before hubby went to MEPS.

Gina my son will be an OS...still trying to figure out exactly what that will be but he was excited about it and knew what it was so that is what matters. Where does your family live maybe someone will plan a visit while he is away. I think that is great that you are making plans together so hubby will know some of the things you will be doing while he is in GL. Where will his A school be and will you be able to join him then?

thanks jdmom, we moved away from all our friends and family a little over a year ago! If it weren't for me being in school I would move back for the 9 weeks. We are making a list of things for me to go do, kind of like a check-off list so he knows I did something other than sit at home and go to school lol. What did your son sign for?

nytesail, that is so sweet!
