DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in March

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in March...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of March of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: Jan 20

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

The party was a success, although she figured it out last Friday. They tried to trick her at work telling her that it was a going away party for her boss who is not leaving until the end of April as well as my many secret conversations with her BF. She told me when she got there that she knew. But all had a good time. I cried when I got home and read all of the beautiful cards and gifts she had gotten. I think next Sunday night will be the hardest. The family is all getting together (and we are a big bunch) for a final goodbye. I will keep you all posted.

Tara B. ~ Many of us call this the Boot Camp roller coaster - and we welcome many to the ride. It is not an easy one by any means. After your son has his PIR, you will continue the Navy roller coaster (hurry up and wait, or now, or soon, etc.) - but always different. As far as your family and friends go, they may have never had this experience. If they have, it was probably a different time. We all handle it differently. When I felt sad, and the tears started to flow - off to the shower I would go. During the workday, the waves are tolerable. But roaming the house is tough at times. Right? Oh! I also tell all it is OK to cry at stop lights. : ) ~ kk

Letters & cards ~ Write! Write! Write! The SRs crave mail and reading material. Do not forget to be creative and make those special cards; a picture or ClipArt works and they love it! An article from a newspaper or magazine works too - but just a page or two. If you have not already read, or heard; stick with the plan white envelopes, no stickers, no scents, no envelope drawings, no musical cards, etc...nothing to attract unwanted attention. One of my special cards caused a giggle ---> caused 100 jumping jacks ---> "It was worth it mom. Keep them coming!"

The SRs will thank you for this;
In one of your first letters, print a plain calendar for the current month and the next two months. Printing it on plain white paper with blocks to write in helps them keep their date frame of mind. The first four (4) weeks it all runs together. Do not send it with them - mail it. : ) ~ kk

teachertoo ~ In my opinion; holding out until the job is right is a good thing!

Denise ~ Many many times a Recruit has their ship date moved up to accommodate the need of another rate - if the Recruit agrees. My son was scheduled to leave 9/2009 (after his college semester, 2 family weddings, and his sister's birthday were over - he had a plan). He was asked several times between 5/09 and 9/09 to leave early and/or consider a different rate. Although he wanted to start this new phase of his life, he held his rate and time frame. In addition, he had a buddy that was to sign for for the same rate and leave at the same time. When it came time to go to MEPS to sign, he was offered a rate other than his choosing. The buddy was quite upset, as this was not expected since he was a very high ASVAB scorer and was set on his rate. It appears the quota for that rate was just filled. He did not sign. ~ : ) ~kk

Sweetie----My daughter is leaving on the 23rd too. Hope that you two meeting up in boot camp and can support each other. I am nervous for all of you but I am sure that you will all do just fine.

Here we go. Today is the surprise going away party. I hope that I can pull this off without my daughter suspecting anything. It is now really hitting me that she is leaving in 16 days. It think these next two weeks are going to be the hardest knowing that she will be gone for 8 or so weeks. I am going to miss the daily text messages while I am work. Although I am so excited for her, I am also very nervous for her. We will miss her terribly.

MamaBear, That would be great if you guys ever decide to come to Wright Pat. I'm only a few miles from there. We go out to the I-Max theather they have every once in a while. 2 weeks and counting. The 23rd seems so very close right now.

SSweety1006, I see your leaving for BC the same day my son leaves. I expect all are nervous to some degree. Remember your all in the same "boat" as it were. Remember the old slogan - Join The Navy And See The World - or The Navy, It's Not Just A Job It's An Adventure. Sure that's kinda hokey but it's also true. You and my son and all the other Future Sailors and going to have the time of your lives and see the world and get paid while your at it. I envy you. When I was young I left home and traveled on my own, your going to have lots of company while you travel that you can depend on and count on. What specialty are you going into. Oh, and don't forget... that uniform looks really cool.
