Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Robs Mom that was my Christmas present to my son last year.  You want an inexpensive watch but durable, plain is always better.  I went with a simple black Timex, dial time(not digital) It had the out edge with the military time, 1300, 1400  etc,  I got one that was waster resistant up to like 30 ft.  I paid $24.99.  The reason for inexpensive is that unfortunately things do "walk" I think more so in A school than BC but it does happen both.  My son was very happy to have it but was not allowed to wear it during most of the time in BC,but was allowed to have it.

Hi there----all good wishes and thoughts to all of you and your kids that are leaving next year.  First I want to say I wish my daughter had been in DEPS longer then she was.---she sign in January 2011 and was gone in March 2011, only made it to maybe one meeting (was working etc). I want to give all of you a BIG piece of advice, and PLEASE share this with your kids (my daughter wish she would of known this). It is going to be VERY hard emotionally once they get to bootcamp, no sleep--yelling etc, there may be tears, and homesickness (this is normal). They may be offered to speak to someone to help them thru this. Tell them NOT TO see a "shink" and it will be offered to them. And once they see the "shink" there may given (or made) more appointments Most of the kids that feel they need to speak to someone to help"shink" may and probably will be sent to Ship 5---which is separations. Better options is: ask to speak to a chaplin, or the care counsler. My daughter wishes she would of done this instead. Yes she was homesick, she also had a pap smear that came back ??? and had to have more test to rule out cancer (she is ok), plus she found out someone she knew killed themselves while she was at bc.  Also said barracks was kinda of depressing---no windows etc. But, she work hard, made it thru bootcamp and battlestations. 3 days after PIR she was separated---The doctor that stamp her paperwork she never even saw nor spoke with. There are a lot of simlar stories out there. PLEASE tell your sons/daughters that it will be hard, but it gets better and NEVER see the shink, only chaplin or care counsler if it gets bad. If my daughter knew this BEFORE hand she would of handled it differently (she thought the shink would help her with it). She would still be in the Navy and almost done with A school.  I have seen many stories like this on another group it is very sad. So many kids trying to get in.  One SR said 6 kids left to "talk to someone" and never came back.  If interested read the stories on Ship 5 (formally ship 17).  God Bless your kids!

Well, I'm sure there will be ups and downs. But you do have N4Ms to turn to when the going gets tough!

HI Nancy you will see before you know it there will be a bunch of you waiting to ship of your DEPs.  If you scroll back and read our posts from the prior year you will see you will need a bubble to put your DEP in to keep from getting hurt or doing something stupid while they wait and you will need a pair of big girl panties loving known as BGPs, but you will get through. Cherish every hug because you will be longing for them this time next year. Have a great day.

valtameri is right as soon as you realize that there are a whole lot of other women feeling the same way it makes it bearable.  Still crazy but bearable!

The best thing for a Navy mom's nerves -- time, keeping busy, and visiting with others on N4Ms.

Robs Mom- we used to say Welcome to the wait.  If you scroll back and read some of the emotions we went through you will realize you are not alone.  It is amazing we are from all parts of the country & all walks of life but we are all Moms, wives, girlfriends and know how you feel.  As nicksmum said we are here to support you and I am sure before you know it you will have a whole group that are leaving with you.
