Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi everyone, I am sure feeling the tension mount as October nears. Thank you, Jessica and Angie, for all the great input. Brandon is really getting excited about leaving. He joined a Boot Camp Workout at the Gym that his recruiters recommended. It is really hard work but he can really feel the difference. I am so proud that he wants to be ready to go but I am getting so anxious as his date to leave gets nearer. I appreciate having you here to talk with so I can just support him at home. He sure doesn't need me babying him and showing my worries. lol. Have a good evening. Kathy

Thank you diannep Angie, and Jessica for all your great advise and good links to information. My son is now running almost every day and his confidence is really building. He feels good about his ability and feels ready to go to BC. It is amazing because a month ago he was talking about not enough time to workout before he left on Oct 25th.
Welcome, QT4JLM. Nice to meet you. I look forward to sharing this journey together. Have a nice evening. Kathy

Hey, Ladies. I am a veteran mom, like JessicaBSailor and SOBE, and wanted to jump on this group to offer a suggestion. PLEASE encourage your recruits to be practicing their run NOW before they arrive at bootcamp. I have received so many messages from distraught moms over the past few months....as I try and offer info on the various PIR groups....who have received a telephone call from their recruit right before PIR that they have not made their run time. It is enough to keep them from graduating with their PIR group. They get several chances to make it and many still do before their own PIR, but travel plans are hung up and parents are frantic. In some cases, the recuit is asmoed (setback) until he can make the run time and therefore misses PIRing with his division. This was the case today when I was contacted by a mom whose son will now miss his PIR this Fri because of this.

They need to be practicing this run now.....at least 4-5 times a week...to be in great shape when they arrive at boot camp. Especially ones who are not used to running....it is imperative that they do this! One female recruit was to PIR in mid-August and is still at boot camp trying to make her run time. It is heartbreaking. So please encourage your recruits to be ready with this run before they leave for boot camp!

Nice to see you here, day. I am glad you found the other moms with children leaving the same time. Believe me, all of the moms here with with children leaving later will be following your journey through boot camp and with open hearts. Have a good evening. Kathy

Day,
I'm glad to hear that your son is all healed and ready to go. My son Adam is also my youngest, so we can cry on each other's shoulders pretty soon. :(
My son actually joined in February and graduated from high school in May as well. He isn't nuke though. He will be an AV.

I'm glad to be able to get to know you.

Yay, other moms with kids leaving early October! Any other Nuke moms in the group? Ian signed on last January and graduated HS in May, so I can't figure out if they put off his departure so long because they were getting a bunch of Nukes together, or 'cos they somehow knew the doofus would break his arm the week before graduation and need time to recover (leave it to my kid to break an arm trying not to trip over a little one at the skating rink), or because the Ways of the Navy are Mysterious Indeed. :) I am already struggling not to burst into tears every time someone mentions his departure date (a month from today!) - he's my youngest, so once he's gone it's going to be a very quiet house... but I will finally gain control of the living room and the XBox 360! So glad his recruiter pointed me this direction!

Last year they did not hold a Christmas week graduation because all non-essential personnel have stand-down during Christmas and New Year's weeks.

They had some of them graduate a week early (Dec. 18) and the rest of them graduated a week late (Dec. 30). They don't want to bring people in on Christmas Week, except for essential personnel (food, medical, RDCs).

Also, if they PIR before the completion of their training, they can be held for up to a week after PIR to finish what remains. My son didn't get to ship out until the Wednesday after his PIR. He had PIR weekend, then the whole division had to return to boot camp for three more days of training. It wasn't a punishment, just scheduling.
