This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for Boot Camp in October. I will leave the year open so that any future DEPpers leaving in the month of October of any year can join.Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions!

Latest Activity: Oct 11, 2024

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

You are absolutely right B'snukemom.   What great kids we have that are willing to sacrifice everything to protect the rest of us!! And we are shedding happy sad proud tears in CT too.   Just as I read this I had just thought, it was time to go to work to get my mind off things and be distracted for a while.  My sailor recruit doesn't leave until tomorrow and he's going to be cleaning/throwing away his room the rest of the day.  Better not to be here.   See ya in DECEMBER and will be talking to ya on N4M in the next couple of months.

Hey Everybody - here we go!  Came in to work for a couple of hours to wrap things up since I won't be in tomorrow.  Son's GF is taking him to the recruiters at 10am and then we are all heading to San Diego to spend the night.......MEPS tomorrow and swearing in!  I'm not gonna lie - I've shed a few tears, but they are happy, proud, mom tears!  Since son is ready for this I know I am ready for this!  Thinking about everyone today and looking forward to meeting some of you in December.  Hang in there - we have great kids who will do great things!  Hugs to all of you {{ }}

Who else has someone shipping out of Tampa FL today?

I saw alot of young men in the lobby at the hotel yesterday along with all the comicon people..  We even saw batman in the parking lot.  Had a great dinner with our recruit and hoping he will text me when he gets to TPA.

Taking my son today to recruiters ofc to go to Meps, he will be at Goose Lake tomorrow. He was so anxious he could not sleep and was talking a mile a minute. I finally convinced him to lay down at 4:30am and TRY to sleep alittle. Now I cant sleep. ugh! In 8 hours I will be taking my 17 yr old and handing him over to the Navy. My heart hurts but my head is telling me to be strong for him and be proud of his choice to join the Navy. Some kids his age have NO IDEA what they want to do with their lives, atleast he has some goals and will have a good future with the Navy opportunities :) Im so happy for him. Good luck to all you moms out there who are going thru what I am today and I thank the young men and Ladies who will be swearing in tomorrow to serve their country! SO PROUD! :)

jami88, welcome.  Sometimes things can move very quickly if someone else had the ship date and then wasn't able to ship and a future Sailor (such as your son) going for the same rating wanted the ship date.  Be sure to check out Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC either above or within the Forums.  Ask anything you need to.

Hello everyone, This all new to me. My son was told that he would probably ship out in March, He went to MEPS a month ago and is leaving the 23. We don't know why he is leaving so quickly. I am new to this and don't know or understand any of it. I just went thru the Marines BC with my other son and they were very informative.

Hi All - spending some last minute alone time with my son today.....just trying to finish everything up.....he's going to dinner with his girlfriends family tonight and tomorrow he and girlfriend are going out for a fancy dinner in Long Beach. Just can't believe that this is it!  Even the dog senses that something is going on LOL. His girlfriend threw a surprise party for him last night with about 75 of their friends......he had a great time and was encouraged by all the love and support they showed him.....
