Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My boy was moved up from the 30th and leaves Oct 23rd and we have been told his PIR is tentatively scheduled 12.14.  Praying for no bumps!

Hi Traci!

It is my understanding that they will not have enough leave time accumulated to leave for the Holidays (even if their schedule would permit it).

My guess is that it will be VERY unlikely that he would be able to come home for Christmas.

Best you could probably hope for is that he was between A School and Basic and you could travel to him to see him.  But you won't know if he will be in GL or already moved to his A School location so you wouldn't want to make plans.

My husband is retired Navy and always reminds me that flexibility is the only way to survive ... So keep it loose and don't get your hopes up.

Of course, I am only giving you MY understanding of the process.  I could be dreadfully wrong.

And so it begins...

Tomorrow I drive my SR to the MEPS hotel and drop him off.  I am at the point where we "might as well be ready" even if we are not.

I know for a fact that he can't run the mile and a half in the right time, but am hopeful that running in a group with the adrenaline of boot camp will help his time.

There is not much else I can to help him at this point.  I can't wait to find out his division/pir so I can join a group on here with other mom's of SR in his Division!

Good luck ya'll!

My son will be going to A school mid December. Are they allowed to go home for Christmas?

If your future Sailor has yet to ship to the RTC, then check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will get the tickets for PIR....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

Hi 2gooddogs, from meps they will be bussed to the airport and depending on time of flight they will wait there to board and be flown to GL. from there a bus will pick them up and take to BC. You would count that friday yes. To guesstimate his PIR count 9 fridays starting with that friday. it could be a week before if he is filling the Div. from prior week or week after if he has to wait for his Div. to fill. Put a paper with numbers and address in wallet, have him take cell phone so he can call with the I'm here call. they do not have phones for them to use. stick a note inside letting him know how proud you are and to stay focused he can do it. he will appreciate it very much as they will miss you the same and no communication until the 3rd or fourth week. He will hold on to that for sure. Best wishes to your New SR.

My son is to report to MEPS on Wednesday, October 10. And his report date at GL is Thursday the 11th

Does every recruit fly from MEPS to GL?

I was just wondering...I don't guess I need to know, but his MEPS stations is only about 8 hours drive.  I was just wondering if they would fly or bus.

Also, is there any way to guess if the 12th would count as his 1st Friday? Or will it just depend on if his division fills and no way for us to know back here at home?

Thanks for any possible answers you might have!

Boy am I getting nervous...only a few days left of my boy...I know he will return to me a Man....  eeeeek

If you are wondering how I know there is no PIR on 12/21/2018 and 12/28/2018, then see http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/tg_grad_dates.html.

Comment by lemonelephant on October 5, 2018 at 12:10am

Those who fill one of the last divisions of a TG are usually in Push Divisions have Battle Stations-21 (BST) last and make the "I'm a Sailor!" call only a day or so (Wednesday or Thursday) before PIR and so they don't get the extras after BST (extra practice for PIR and extra down time for Sea stories from the RDC and time to learn trick marches for example) and must push to make it through on time the first time since they have no extra days for anyone in the division who fails the Official PFA and is moved to FIT to still have PIR with the division. See Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training (FIT), Arrival and What Happens at the RTC  and Ship/Division--How it Works.

If your then recruit were to fail the initial run and then pass on the second try, then s/he may still be able to be in the 12/14/2018 TG, but if not, then s/he would not have PIR until 01/04/2019, but s/he would be eligible for the Christmas Adopt-A-Sailor program. Make sure that your future Sailor is preparing and is ready when s/he ships so that does not happen.

Comment by lemonelephant on October 5, 2018 at 12:08am

Several have indicated that their future Sailor's ship date was moved up a week form the last week of October. That is because there is no PIR on 12/21/2018 or 12/28/2018.

By counting 9 Fridays, PIR should be 12/21/2018 for those who ship on 10/22/2018, but they will be placed in a Push Division and should be placed in one of the last divisions from the week before and WILL have PIR on 12/14/2018 since there is no PIR on 12/21/2018 or 12/28/2018. That happens for some or all of those who ship on a Monday or Tuesday. Wait onThe Form Letterto know the PIR date for sure.
