Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

chriscwick- My son graduated January 11th of this year. Most of his friends got sent to Bahrain. He got sent to Greece. My son really wanted to be an MWD handler but they couldn't get any billets (not sure if that's right) for it.

We gave our son his laptop & phone after we left the base after PIR so he would have it. Then, were going to mail it as they would go to the airport at 02:00. We told him we'd send it as soon as we had a TX address. Regarding a new phone. Ours went from "A" school straight to Bahrain. He was supposed to have his pick due to his performance in school, but they kind of "voluntold" him to sign 2 yrs in the sand. Got a bonus for it. [He's MA2 MWDH (Master at Arms Military Working Dog Handler) "Sand Sailor".] He called us at 04:25 to tell us his flight wouldn't leave till 18:00! Needless to say we drove like maniacs to the airport & got almost the whole day with him! We gave him his LT & cell then so he'd have it & we didn't have to "If It Fits It Ships" stuff.

BTW: hook up with the USPS for a Military Care Kit @ 1-800-610-8734. You can order the kit which includes all sizes of If It Fits... Boxes, tape, customs forms, & covers for same. I've used a ton of them these last, just short of, three years in the sand.

Fair winds & following seas to you & your sailors! HOOYAH! Y'all.

That's what I heard alot (A LOT!!) of them do, apparently the chiefs will tell them not to, but most do. My son didn't because he wanted to get a new phone so he just waited til he got there and bought one. Yes, lots of the sailors had their family give them their stuff at the airport. I also heard that the chiefs tell the recruits they can't have their family there while they're waiting to leave for A school after graduation. I heard a lot of families did go and wait at the airport as long as they could and that the USO was kind and accomodating, and it wasn't a problem.

Yes, they can have their cell phones at A school. As far as visitors, I don't think they can have them right away, but I think they can after a couple weeks. Not sure though. The day before boot camp graduation there is a meet and greet. I missed my sons, but I heard they are fun and informative.

Hi all, it has been a while since I have been on...my son is stationed at kings bay, ga. We took a tour of this base over the holidays late last year. Amazing! He graduated from bootcamp June, 2012 and then went onto San Antonio for a school. Just wondering if others have loved ones stationed in kings bay as well? Would love to hear from you if so.

Hartmann82, that would be great. I am joining the groups that both ou and lemonelephant suggested. My dad was in the USAF while I grew up and my husband in the USN for 10. But I am just a nervous wreck about giving my baby over to them. I want him to be super prepared. And I want to be as supportive and knowledgable as possible so he will not see me crying. Thnaks again.

Hartmann82, Join the group, PIR 03/08/13 TG 17 - 10 Divisions (105-112, 916 and 917), to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR. "A" School is at Lackland AFB so you will also want to join San Antonio MA's and check out the Discussions there, especially Break down week by week. I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) there. PIR Day and Liberty During PIR Weekend will give you more info on what will happen next weekend.

swaneyboyz03, You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in May. You will meet others with loved ones leaving at the same time and may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... I also suggest you join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and New Members Stop Here and check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

You will also want to join San Antonio MA's sometime between now and the end of BC and check out the Discussions there.
