I got a call tonight!  We talked about 4 minutes and then he called my husband and his younger sister.  Unfortunately, none of us were in the same place. Hopefully he can call his brothers if he gets another opportunity.  My son is in Ship 03 Div 142 and he said he may be Grad and Go.  He said he sent a letter but I have not received it yet, so I have something else to look forward to.  It was so good to hear his voice and to hear that everything is going well. This has been a great day!

beepjr1- welcome! We are all in this "boat" together! Have you hooked up with your sons PIR group? If there is any way we can answer any questions everyone on here is very helpful and at various stages in their loved ones Navy journey.

My son PIR'd last May and finished his A school for ET last month and is leaving for SD on March 31st for C school. What is your sons rate?

I hope you will allow me to join as I am male and the husband of a current member. I am looking for what to expect when my son does his PIR in late April.

Hi, I did get my "kid in thebox".  And the few lines on his form letter.  Now I'm just waiting for that letter.  One mom in my sons division has received a letter so hopefully I will have one on the way soon.  I think it would be nice to get together for lunch - I am close to Westminster.

Maybe those of us that are near Westminster can meet one weekend, maybe for lunch on a sunday?  It would be a nice support group

Linda- I remember those days. Dreading the mail [ cause there was nothing there] and then eager when he could start writing. Thursdays was the day I always seemed to hear from him. Then one week I got 2 letters on separate days! Have you already gotten your "kid in a box"? It took me 2 weeks before I could open it. And I knew the clothes would be smelling a bit ripe as he had left in April and would have worn the same things almost 3 days straight! Yep- into the wash they went!

You know Olney too! I'm sorry to say I don't know where Eldersburg is. When we moved here back in 81 from England no one knew where Olney was. Heck I didn't know where Olney was before we moved here!

I haven't heard from my son yet, but I am not expecting anything until next week at the earliest.  However, that doesn't stop me from looking at the mail as soon as I get home! I do know where Olney is and I am close to Westminster as I live in Eldersburg.

Another good tip Monica! I will pass that on to my son. How long is your husband stationed here for?
Comment by lori on March 11, 2011 at 9:28pm
Monica- thank you for posting that. It was helpful. My son already did his taxes for 2010 and he had worked in MD before he went into the Navy. But come 2010 he would have no nonmilitary income so it sounds like he will file his taxes differently. Good info to have.
