Linda, congratulations! How wonderful to gain 2 new soon to be daughter in laws in the space of a couple days! This is a great photo! So happy for you and your family.
It's snowing pretty good out now. I don't mind snow when I don't have to go out! I didn't used to mind being "snowed in" but now that I'm in school I'm not as thrilled by the white stuff as I used to be! I do have a few weeks left on my break so if the snow wants to do it's thing before I go back that's fine!
Elaine- hopefully JD got caught up on his sleep. I haven't heard from Paul yet.
I so admire people who quilt! I love the look of beautiful hand made quilts. It's not something I've ever tried. I like "crafty" stuff and I make jewelry but I'm not much of a sewer. I'd love to see pics of some of the things you've done.
I'm hoping this snow doesn't come today since we have a family party in Gaithersburg. Joey is still home but not home - he is a volunteer chaparone with Urban Trekkers on a trip to D.C until Sunday. Joey was engaged on 12/19 and his older brother proposed to his long-time girlfriend on Christmas Day - so I have 2 wonderful future daughter in-laws. Julia & Joey are on the left and his older brother, Tommy, is with Brie on the right.
Elaine & Anna - we had a very mild winter last year with almost no snow. This isn't alot so far but it is a nuisance; however, I am waiting for a big one this year!
If we get some snow, stay safe everyone!
Lori-just catching up here. Other half and I have spent the last 2 days running into Fort Meade for medical stuff. Then trying to get some grocery shopping in for the "big storm" coming in on Saturday, LOL. JD had made his own travel plans so what he got is what he chose. He had a 3 hr. layover in Charlotte. He was probably over the time difference by the second day he was here. He has made the trip from the west coast a couple of times and he sleeps on the plane, too. My biggest concern is him going back to the west coast and not getting enough sleep. He was due back on the ship yesterday morning early.
I sew quilt tops from patterns that my quilt shop in Texas would put out every month. You could sign up for the "Block of the Month" and pay for the pre-cut material. Sew the block, usually 12 inches square, and have a twin or queen size quilt in no time. I have quite a few blocks I need to sew together and get the quilting done as soon as I can find a shop or someone who has a long-arm machine. I have a quilt top done in "Navy" material for JD and a beautiful patriotic pattern that needs to be put together. I have enough projects ready to be sewn together to keep me busy til spring and enough material to keep me sewing for about 2 years, LOL. You might call me a fabric hoarder, hahaha. In the quilting world it is called a stash. It is my stress reliever and passes the time until I see my sailor. I am thinking of taking a few days to go to Amish Country in the spring and see what I can learn about hand quilting from them.
Well, I guess I better get out of here for now. I hope everyone has a great weekend and that the snow will be pretty and then go away, LOL. Hugs!!!
Debbie- how is your sailor able to keep a dog? My son would love a dog but there is no way he could have one in the barracks or when he deploys! Since I had my daughter, SIL and their little girl here for a few days I was making breakfasts and bacon was always being cooked! My son doesn't "do" breakfasts normally. He said it's nasty on the ship and in his room on shore there is no means to do so. I try to spoil him when he's home! He said that he sometimes gets a huge box of poptarts and takes one with him when he goes to work. In his stocking I put a poptart "holder"- he got a kick out of that! No more crushed poptarts!
Anna- That's great Daniel gets to be with you for a few more days! I'm sure you're "fattening" him up! It's good he will have a break before another deployment. I've never been to Hershey though my daughter and SIL took the kids and said they loved it. But that was this past summer and they went on water rides! I don't imagine they had any rides open this time of the year do they?
What did we ever do without skype and FB messaging and such? I got to "talk" to my son in London through skype the day after Christmas. Connection wasn't too good and then we had to leave for the airport. I hope I can talk to him again soon though. He spent the day with some friends he met, Italians and French!
Have a wonderful weekend to all- stay safe!
Lori ~ Hi there - yes, NYC was ruled out after all b/c of weather... we can go in the spring. We opted for Hershey and the Chocolate World. It was fun!
I love the story about Paul being united with his friend on the ship - that's just awesome!!
Daniel has been in since the 23rd and we have treated him to some fun stuff and spoiled him a little :-) I'm enjoying it and he is too. He's been catching up on all the food and sleep he didn't get in Afghanistan! He goes back on Jan. 2 to Camp LeJeune and, for now, no plans for their Battalion to deploy...but that can change. We FaceTimed with everyone over the Christmas holiday - so even though we couldn't be together - we at least could talk and see each other.
Y'all have a good day and we will catch up after New Years!
God Bless :-)
That sounds like a long flight for him. We were able to get a direct flight going back for Paul which he much preferred. Did JD ever adjust to the east coast time?
I know what you mean about the wind- that is something I just can't stand. It looks so nice out today- hard to believe another round of bad weather will hit us tomorrow. Maybe it won't be much of anything.
What do you like to sew?
Lori-I heard from JD at about 20 after 10 last night. He was waiting on his baggage to appear, LOL. He said it was a little rough to Charlotte but from there to home it was okay. I had texted him about 20 minutes before his call wanting to know if he was there yet. Hope to hear from him on New Year's Day. I think he will be glad to get back to the routine even though he says he isn't that busy. Hoping everyone stays safe for the next round of weather coming in. Other half and I had to get out today, the wind wore me out, and again tomorrow. After that I plan to stay in and do some after-Christmas straightening up so I can get back to sewing after the new year gets here. Hugs to all.
Paul's plane left on time last night. By the time we got to Reagan airport it was just rain in DC though it was a mixture of rain and ice when we left our house. I haven't heard from him but his friend who was picking him up I heard through his mom [ who I'm friends with] that he arrived ok. His friend Craig was in the same division in bc with him and his family live in Chicago so they "adopted" Paul and when he was in A school at GL he would go home with Craig on weekends. I stayed with his mom when I visited Paul and we became good friends. Craig is the same rate as Paul and they went through C school together as well. Then Craig got sent to Bahrain 10 months ago. The guys didn't think they would see each other again. But then an amazing thing happened and Craig was stationed on the same ship as Paul! Craig just arrived in SD Christmas eve so Paul hadn't seen him till last night. I know the two of them had a lot to catch up on! It's neat the way it all worked out. They became such good friends and are now on the same ship together. What's the chances of that happening?
Anna did you end up going to NYC? Can't imagine being out in this wind and cold! Didn't they get more snow than we did?
Joanne, by the time you read this you will be back from the burial. I prayed for you and your family and hope all went well. It sure would have been chilly standing out in the weather today.
Elaine- did you hear from your son? Did he make it in ok?
