Well, according to Adam's ship's careline they are due in a day or so to come into their first port call. His email today said that they were having "verbal disagreements" in his ship lately. Yikes! It sounds like it's going to be a long 8 months. :( They definitely are ready to get off the ship and have some fun.
I would love to plan lunch. Could we please, please, please, plan it for Oct. 27? I have a conflict on the 20th with a high school friends lunch and would LOVE to come. I need to be with my Maryland moms now. :) I can't miss seeing you ladies.
Anna says that the 20th or 27th would be ok for her too. She said that she might be offline for a little while also, but will be back very soon.
Lori, Phuket is in Thailand and I think it's pronounced as Pu ket, without the h. Good thing, lol.
Yes, it's crazy how we are so careful and then we find those kinds of things.
Last week I saw pictures of the Stennis sailing right along side the George Washington. I have a friend whose son is on the Washington and I knew they were in port in Guam on Friday. So, I knew that Adam was close to Guam last week. Then on Monday, some of the sailors on the Stennis group told their moms that they were sailing into a typhoon. It didn't take much for me to check online to see where a typhoon that day. I knew for sure that his ship was sailing near the Philippines. :) I told my husband that I knew where he was and he never told me anything.
Betsy- I was trying to figure out HOW you pronounce that word! Where is it? I used to find it amusing that the ports the Vinson would pull up in would immediately be announced online where it was. All us moms are making sure we don't say a thing and then it's online!
Joanne- what group were you in when you wrote the full name? I can imagine the reception you got! That was one of the first things I was warned about on the boot camp site.
Joanne, haha, you have quite an entrepreneur, lol.
Lori, I bet that was pretty funny.
I know that this probably isn't funny to the people who live there, but there was an article in a foreign paper that Adam's ship was going to have a port call in Phuket. All I could think of was how some people may try to phonetically pronounce that one, lol. Oh, and I'm not worried about posting it on here, since it was already published in a newspaper "over there".
Joanne, I've watched the video that the Professor did before doing the homework [ it's required- the way the program works the video must be watched before going on to the next lesson] and he gave words "tips"- which is great if I knew how to apply them!
The worst typo I ever made was on N4M! It was on our ships group and the moms name had "ship" in it. Well I posted an email to her and used her name but when I wrote out "ship" I used a "t" instead of a "p"! I didn't even catch it! One of the moms who had my cell number quickly texted me that I might want to change it! I cancelled the post [ not sure who may have seen it- thank goodness someone got a hold of me to point it out!] just mortified and made sure I didn't make that mistake again!!!
Lori, my bad, lol. It was a typo on my part, :) Algebra, YUCK! You have my sympathies.
I'm so sorry, Deneen!
Joanne, I have a few friends with sons on subs and they posted this on our private FB group about the halfway box. https://www.facebook.com/groups/211306665614961/doc/211319555613672/
Maybe it will help. I do remember them saying that it should be about shoe box size. This week, one of them also posted that the sailors also love those wind up little cars, lol. ((Hugs))
Ok so I didn't need to go back several posts to find "Doreen"!!! Good! I am taking pre algebra which is still algebra. I am stuck on word problems which I've always had a hard time with. I get lost at the first sentence! This Math is like slow torture for me. Just when I think I get it another problem is added and I'm still trying to figure out what the heck I'm doing from the LAST problem! And it's not only that- it makes me REALLY cranky sitting here trying to figure it out.
I saw the name "Doreen" come up and thought I'd missed a new person coming in. You all meant "Deneen" right? My brain is so confused right now with trying to do my math homework that I thought I'd missed something.
Joanne, with Elaine coming in Oct and Anna moving in her house in early Oct, I wouldn't mind waiting at all until late Oct for a get together. I would love to have all of us together for lunch.
I think you handled your co-worker just fine and I wouldn't worry about it. She may think again before saying that and that's not a bad thing. If it was a recurring thing with her, I must admit that I probably would have been tempted to slap her, lol. I really do believe that no one can really understand the separations like military parents do. I have had people say the same sort of thing to me and (and 3 of my children did go away for college) so I do know the "other side" of it. I try to tell them, as nicely as I can, that I do realize how hard it is, but maybe it would be best for them to try and concentrate on the fact that they are able to Skype, call and text them whenever they like and that is a blessing. :) They usually get quiet after I say that. :)
I have been thinking about you and your boys. ((hugs)) I hope you have been able to have some very special time together with Kevin, (of course other than your fabulous upcoming trip.) I just remember that it was the little things, like seeing a movie with just us or just talking at dinner about our days that meant so much in the last few weeks before Adam left. I can imagine that the trip to the airport was very difficult with Jason. Those "see you laters" never do get any easier, do they? I'm sorry that his visit was, as always, way too short. ((Hugs))
Doreen, Woohoo, that is awesome news! I'm so happy for you.
Lori, I have never been to the Ren Fest. I think we should try to plan a Navy Moms trip next year? Btw, my oldest daughter always dresses up when she goes. She loves it.
Elaine, I'm sorry to hear about your husband's health issues. :( My mother was also diagnosed with COPD about 7 years ago and, even though some days are better than others, over all she does pretty well.
Anna, I'll be praying that moving day goes well without a lot of stress.
Lori-He was diagnosed with it back in 2007. He has taken Spiriva since then and it is the best for him. He was a truck driver for nearly 4 years and is now a security officer for a big company. They have contracts in Maryland so even though he is retiring (he turned 62 this year) he will be working part time up there. I was not wearing "feelers" at HC. I think it was Kathyf or bcordova. It was all I could do to keep my ears warm, LOL, with my hoodie up. For the second HC in a row it was cloudy and overcast and cold and damp, booooo!!! One of these HC's it has just got to be perfect weather. Other half's HC waaaaaaay back in January 1993, I don't even remember what the weather was like. It was Super Bowl Sunday, the Cowboys were playing and we just wanted those guys off the ship (this was just before they started letting women serve on ships) so we could get home and settle in for the big game.
I am worn out today. Spent all morning in one of the mini storage units in the sun purging my roll-top desk drawers. I had bought that roll-top in Japan but unfortunately it had to go to the dump. I can tell you every where it ever sat in every house we lived in since then, too. So sad. Anyway, I need to get off here and go do some dishes and laundry. Hugs to all and have a great evening, I'll check in later.
