Congratulations Maryland Mom on your exciting news about becoming a grandmother!

Lori, what a wonderfrul trip for your son - I know you will enjoy the time with your family!

On a sadder note, my son's room mate in Ballston Spa was killed on Friday in a motorcycle accident.  Zane Stotesbury was one of my son's best friends and he was following Zane back to base for PT when he lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected. He was killed on impact and unfortunately, Joey saw the whole thing.  He seems to be dealing with it OK and is going to talk to the chaplain next week.  This is a terrible loss for Zane's family & friends as well as the Navy.

MarylandMom, glad you didn't lose power. We still have a lot of homes around where we live that are still in the dark. In this heat.

Wow you have had a lot unexpected news in the past couple of months! I'm sure it's been hard to take it all in. Congrats on the first grand baby! That is exciting news!

Good morning to all, I hope each of you had a wonderful July 4th and are recovering fully from the terrible storm of last Friday. We lost some trees in our yard, but luckily no other damage. I have friends who are approx 1/4 mile from me, that still only have partial power and have lost all frozen & refridgerated food. She is now 2nd guessing having her deep freeze.

My story continues with my Sailor Son !!  After we barely got over the shock of the 2 month "secret" marriage, we have since found out they are now expecting !! At 1st I was really upset, because so much to deal with so quick, but the joy is now coming. This is my first grandchild !! So married in March, tell me May 9th,baby news May 26th, Baby due,Jan 31st. I was braced for news of twins, but she had her 1st sonagram and it is just one . What a whirlwind 2 months I've had.

I hope to make the lunch date whenever it gets scheduled. We got to OC ist week in Aug and I will think of all the rt 32 and east friends as I am driving thru !! Have a great weekend, stay cool !! ~Donna~

Debbie, wow you aren't that far at all! I know that Dunkin Donuts. People probably needed to get their coffee if they were open!

My mom lives in Leisure World and loves it. That's funny that you knew the Giant way back then. I hate that parking lot. Going into that store requires patience. The LW citizens don't like to move very fast and seem to block the aisles without any thought to those around them trying to get by. Rubbing your belly is rude! Why do older ladies feel they have the right to do that? I do remember having that done to me as well.

Debbie, I am VERY familiar with Kensington. The fire station you mentioned was were my Navy son Paul lived as a fireman for 3 years!

I have noticed that one block will have power and then go a few more blocks and - nothing! Olney where I live has traffic lights on now, where it didn't last night. I went to the Giant down Georgia Ave outside of Leisure World [ it's called Silver Spring but it's more like Rockville]. I guess I could have gone the other way on 108 but I had also wanted to go to the Roots near Leisure World but that shopping strip was closed.

I don't think you're that far away from me. Do you know the restaurant Great Sage in Clarksville? That is where we thought of going to dinner last night but when I read what Betsy said about HC being mostly dark we didn't. Probably should have called. And there is a Roots there.

Debbie- when your on well water that is awful when you lose power. So glad it's back on for you. I had to go out today and noticed some traffic lights are back but not all. Had to drive a ways just to find a store that's open. I can't imagine what your commute was like! "Interesting" is probably an understatement!!!

And we think it's hot here! I wouldn't want to be in GA right now! I'm quite done with this heat.

Joanne- glad you finally talked to Jason- brief as it was. My thinking is the longer they are out of touch with the "civilian world" the less they have in common with others besides their own Navy buddies. I'm sure he's not looking forward to going back out.

A cabin in the mountains sounds wonderful! When you say that Jason doesn't think things will fall in place for the army is that at all or just for this Sept?

Let's shoot for a Saturday in Sept.

Linda- my house power is on- for that I am VERY grateful!!! Just outside of our neighborhood and our town and surrounding neighborhoods are out. But looking at some areas going towards DC [ the older homes with large trees] on the news and I can see our neighborhood wasn't as damaged as they were. It's a shame the stores didn't do a "storm sale" for those who have power. I would have bought stuff! I'm not sure where I can get milk. I have some left but it won't last.

Linda- glad you also came out ok. Joanne did too.

People are not obeying the "treat lights out as a 4 way stop" and it's almost a free for all. Scary- especially when it gets dark in the bigger intersections.

For me Betsy I don't have any Saturday's left open in August! My daughter, SIL and my granddaughter will be coming in for the weekend and then we go to the beach for a week. Good grief how is it even JULY now? Can we look at Sept for a date [ and hopefully cooler weather]?

Wow Lori, that is crazy!  I wouldn't have even thought of the food spoiling that fast either.  I hope things are settled down a little now.

Linda, glad to hear that you are ok too.  I took our car to the shop tonight and saw some lights out on 32, but it was close to Howard County.

We have to plan another lunch soon ladies.  I could even pick up Linda, :) .  I will be away from July 15 to 23, but anytime after that is good.  Maybe August?

We survived with no damage and only 15 min without cable.  I know other families in Eldersburg who won't have power until Tuesday at the earliest.  There are scattered lights out wherever I went yesterday - Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, and here in Carroll County.

Hope your power comes back soon Lori.

Funny you mention Howard County- we were going to see if one of our favorite restaurants is open there. Olney where we live is all dark, as is most areas around us. We had to go farther afield to find gas as my car was on empty. Fortunately we did before I ran out.

Thank goodness your parents have neighbors WITH power! It's funny how some people have it in the same neighborhood and others are without.

So many traffic lights are dark- I saw an accident CAUSED by a police car hitting another car! I'm sure there are going to be many incidents like that until all the power comes back on. I just don't want to go out! I went to our local store which was running on a generator- I do my weekly shopping on Sunday and they were throwing everything out that had been refrigerated. Smelled like bad fish in the store! So no dairy products to be found around us. I wonder how long it will be before things get back to normal? I hope your parents power comes back on soon.
