deneen, My husband and I had hoped to do it, but then he had to go to NM for work.  I have to pick him up from the airport on Saturday.   We do both plan on doing it next time though.  I hear you'd better bundle up pretty good if you do, since it's supposed to be a cold one on Saturday.

barb, sorry but my son is coming in from Pensacola and we are still awaiting his leave approval.  At this point, airfare is outrageous and I am looking at the Greyhound bus prices.  Maybe your sailor could check out those prices too?  Depending on where he is coming from, maybe it won't be so bad.  Where is he coming from?

Lori, I hope your son is able to get back.  ((hugs))

JoanneB, wow, that's quite a switch.  I do have a couple of good friends who have Army sons.  One friends actually does have a son in the Navy and a son in the Army.  (she is active on Navy4moms too).  Maybe when the time comes I can have her contact you as she also started a FB page for her Army son when he went to boot camp and she is very active on the Army moms websites.

Barb, I wish I could help. My son is in SD and still doesn't know if he will make it home for Christmas. I haven't seen him since Feb so I know what you're feeling now! Where is your son stationed? I hope everything will work out for your son.

This is the first Thanksgiving that my son will not be home.  He will be going to a friend's house in South Carolina so he will have a good Thanksgiving and I am thankful he will have a good day.  Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Hi Pat, I'm good.  No orders yet for my youngest son.  He finished up A school last week and they have told him that they probably won't get orders until after the holiday stand downs now.  I'm hoping he can come home for Christmas.  My daughter's fiance is still in Hawaii though and will be through Aug of 2012. I'm hoping for another visit out there next summer.  How's everything with your sailor?

MandM99,  I'm so sorry that your visit with your daughter has been shortened.  Wow, that's great that you have been able to spend so many holidays with her.  I'm sure you will enjoy your time with her for Christmas.

This will be my 2nd Thanksgiving without my youngest son (he was in BC last Thanksgiving) and since we have 3 other adult children living a million miles away (at least it seems like that many to me) this year will be pretty different for this mom of 5.  My oldest daughter (and only one living in MD) will be working, so my hubby and I are going to Blackwater Falls, WV for 2 nights.  We are staying at a B&B and having dinner at the lodge restaurant.  I've always wanted to go away just once, for a holiday, so now is my chance.

Pat, Oh I wish I could do that this year, but my daughter is coming home from college that day and I have to pick her up at the airport.  :(  Please remember us next year, as I would love to do it.

deneen, it sounds like you have plans for a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Enjoy your time with your daughter and her bf.

Oh Joanne, I hope you feel better soon.  ((Hugs))

Wow, I'm so glad to hear that the weapon was just an umbrella.

Lori, thanks ((Hugs)) to you too.  I am already dreading when my son goes out, and he hasn't even gotten Orders yet.

Oh and the big work that my son has been doing was moving refrigerators in the rooms at Corry station.  I know he will get tired of that soon.

Comment by lori on November 17, 2011 at 11:05am

Joanne, so sorry to hear your sick. No fun. And on top of having your boy so far away and not being able to talk to him. I'll sit and cry with you if you like. I'm feeling the same way myself.

Glad everything was ok at Ellen's campus. Scary times that an umbrella could cause a campus to shut down.

Betsy, I hope he hears very soon and it's SD for him. Let us know. I'll let everyone know when Paul finally hears something. He's tired of doing piddly work around the base.

Thanks, Lori.  He doesn't know yet, but he said they have been told that they most likely won't get their Orders until after the Christmas stand down.  He has finished his A school and then finished his shipboard ops last week.  He loves San Diego too.  I took him there right before he went to BC and he has wanted to get there ever since.
