HI
Glad you have your resevations :) Share when you receive the letter or call from you son. It makes all of feel good to hear another Navy Mom get one :)
Hey - Donna - busy lady you are. Doing fine here. The only thing I have to learn - is the new TV remote that goes with the new cable box . Son is installing it and will be nice to view some shows in HD. The colors just jump off the screen - I swear I am going to need sun glasses to watch TV. But learning that new remote - ? Let you know how that goes.
Havea good weekend
T-Lynn,
I made reservations for the weekend. From the research I've done, I think he will be staying at GL for ATT (A School?). I think that ATT is some type of technical training. My son would like to go to San Diego for A School. We got family in the LA Area and is has loved visiting CA.
Thank you all for your support!
HI
My sailor did NOT Grad and Go. He was at GL for at least 2 and half months with A School - then on to Texas for C school
That weekend - his oders got mixed up. He was told he was going directly to Texas the next morning, bu it turned out wrong and he was suppose to have gone over to the dorm side and get settled in. If that had been done - he would have been able to come home for the weekend - we live near GLs. BUT someone made a mistake ( this happens and NO it is not easy to get use too ) and we stayed for the weekend just to be able to see him. After 3 weeks he earned his chit -over night card and was able to come home for a weekend. BUT he had to have a buddy come along . So - at times - we would have two to three sailors at home. That was OK - I baked cookies and we had fun :)
Hope that helps - sorry - you just have to wait and see what happens. Suggest you be prepared to stay the weekend
How are you doing ? :) Hi Trina - nice hearing from you
Thank you your replies. I hoped to receive a letter this week, but nothing so far.
I was told that mineman are considered "Grad n' Go" since they take the ATT class at GL. How did that affect what you were able to do with you sailor? How much time were you able to spend with your son during PIR weekend?
HI Donna what new?
I have not heard from ALex of late. He is very busy with the ship again. But he did call his brother. ALex was able to complete his last paper for the business class with Maryland Univerisity, turn it in and take the final :) I'm just waiting to hear how he did. At least he has his foot in the door - so to speak - of taking college classes again. How is your sailor doing? And how is the weather treating you ?
Mostly all I heard from my son: " study - study- study and then take tests."
Not only will your son be studing for his actaul job ( Navy calls a job - a Rate) but he will have to earn his chit card. That is so he can leave base - even to stay over night off base. Then he will be learnig duties on their ships - aka dorms. In other words - getting to know a sample of ship life and Navy life.
And we moms learn to WAIT ! Be ready for phone calls that will be wonderful and then ones of complete complaining. And sending care packages to your son - if it is some cookies or homemade stuff - send extra - he will have other sailors begging for some.
This was my beginning welcome to being a Navy Mom. Just take one step at a time and ask any questions. If Trina and Donna and I don't have the answer - we usually know some Mom on another site that will have an answer. have a good day
