Hi Ladies, I will be off the site for a couple of days. Busy time here. Tomorrow is Mom's 89th birthday. ANd we celebrate! Baking pies - cakes - cookies and still have to carve that pumpkin. Also my mom received the results from her test - she does have a cancer in the uterus . It is a non agressive type - so she see a specialist on Novmeber 4th Then we will know what ups and how do get rid of this cancer. She is in great spirits - no pun for the Holiday. She is busy planning out her times to watch HSN and the World Series - I think she likes the Phillips. Plus - family and friends are calling and her birthday flowers arrived. So I am off for a while - I have major crank duty :). Wish you all a very Happy Halloween. Catch a falling Autumn leaf on Halloween and prosperity will come to home all year. Hugs everyone - TL:ynn

Hi Louis!
My son is stationed there too! Get laptop here ! ANd warrantiy on it and case to carry it. Black or Dark Blue case color NOte: All back packs - carrying cases have to be those colors ONLY ! Keep receipts of warranity so if something goes wrong with that computer - he can send it back ot you and get it fixed. That happened to our son. Lisitng things:
1. It does get cold there - get LONG JOHNS !!!!!! White ones. At least three sets. On teh Japan Moms and Dad site - the moms talked about the ones being made out of silk - a lighter weight long johns, but very warm. I think Lands In Brand.
2. take winter coat - gloves - hat. REason - cannot wear military winter coats with civilian clothing.
3. Have cash of up to $250 on him as he travels for emergency.
4. Have list of Sponsors names and their phone numbers on him - so he can contact them if something happenns and his flight is canceled or he is bumped off the flight. Sponsor are one who meet your sailor at the airport and take him to his ship. And check with the airlines adn airport where you son is leaving fro Japan - to see if you can sit with him. I think only IDs showing who you are will do it. My husband and I were not given this informtion and I had to say my goodbye in the lobby and watch him disappear in the crowds.
5. Possible get some Yen.
6. If his sponsors cannot meet him at the airport - ask D.O.D. The Japanees are kind and will direct your son to this informations place at the airport.
7. His cell phone willnot work in Japan. Get phone cards. ANd then consider getting skype. This is a good phone calling system - It is over teh computer. You might already know this - I didn't so just sharing.
I'm blank now. Will try to think of other things - asking other MN mOms to help give some advice please.
Louise when you know your son's ship's name - sned it PM to my site. I don;t know what is up , but warnings have gone out on the some other sites - of too much infromation was given out about ships and their movements. Loose Lips -sink ou Sailors ships. Good luck - sorry if I am long winded. TLynn PS !
Travel in civilian clothing not dress blues !!!!!! In uniform our sailors are targets - that is what the Cheif Petty Officers told my son as he met him at the airport; The words were: "What the h--- are you wearing those for? Don't you know you are a target? "

Hi new MN :),
So was my son when he finished bc. He was told to be ready to go to Ingelside right after bc. But then he got the news - Schooling at GL first. Now that can take up to two months to finish - but if you can apply yourself and really study. You CAN get out earlier. You will be at the GL during the same time that my son was - 2 years ago. KEEP WARM! ANd drink as musch orange juice - eat any kind of citris fruit you can to STOP yourself from getting any colds. Once my son's division got a cold - they all got it! And it stayed for the entire time! He stated - that to keep warm at night - they slept in their hats. One thing nice though - the FOOD was great! ANd if anyone can send you long johns as soon as you as graduate - get them! Other little things to consider:
1. Since you know that you have to be at GL for your electronics classses - make sure you get assigned to your new ship (dorm) right after BC graduations. If so you might be one of the luckiy ones to go home for the weekend!
2. GET those LONG JOHNS !
3. Make sure when you get on your ship (dorm) - that when giving you an order to go to the dentist - eye doctor - etc, that your SS# matches! Reason - turned out there was another sailor with the same last name. That sailor was a screw up. But the cammanders of the ship (dorm) kept mixing up the $$# - so my son got in trouble. It almost cost him his chit card - the leave card.
4. When family come to pick you uo at GL. Make sure they have all the papers they need for the car. ( Insurance - ownership all up to date)
At this time I can't think of anything else. These were some problems we had.
Oh - if you feel you have leadership qualities - step in when some of the younger ones are misbehaving in your divison. Reason - you ALL pay for the bad behavior. Good luck TLynn

HI -all and Glida, Glida has Ricky emailed - facebooked - called you?
Well my son did this morning. Turns out Ricki is having an allergic reaction to teh sopa used in teh kitchen It ate an layer of skin off his hands! The ship doc said just don;t get you hands wet! He is still on crank duty - how can one keep their hands dry if on kitchen detail? I have asked for advice on the IL Moms site and the Japan Moms and Dad site. Let you know what I hear. But hey MN Moms - any ideas to help Ricky? I suggested that he put vacaline on his hands and then wear some thick socks on his hands as he sleeps. That help med me when I had real bad cracked hands from the cold weather. Any ideas TLynn

Hi everyone ! Hope your morning is bright and true Autumn weather - you like.
By the way - that big storm was a big fizzle to my son's opinion. He said all they got were some wind. The ship is now out for it's Autunm tour. Sharing some other good gossip. On the IL Mom site - there is information about WalMart. WalMart is putting up a Thank You Wall for Military persons. Can be serving now or has so in he past. They will scan the photo in it's computer and place the picture on the wall - then give you two free copies! I don't really shop at WalMart, but htis time I am going to honor my son. thought you all would like to do the same. Need to rush off have a great day TLynn

Good Mrorning :),
Know about that strom. The Japan Moms and Dad site is buzzing with information about that storm. Many sailors have contacted their parents to share what is happening. So far - all good news too. Mostly hig h winds - still have power and public placesa re closed. Japan seems to really know what to do adn so does our Navy. One sailro shared that some of them had already done the beer run and stocked up - they are ready. Everyone a wish of a good day . TLynn
