How do they decided who goes to Japan and who goes to Bahrain? Has your son ever been in Japan? How long are they usually deployed for and then when they come back do they go back to SD and wait for the next deployment? Sorry so many questions, I just feel so uninformed about everything.

Thank you guys,  I guess it was just a shock to find out that the Navy (recruiters) aren't kept updated with these things. (Especially since it's been over 2 years). I guess it could of been worse, he could be going somewhere cold for A school. I think he's really going to like SD, sunshine, and warm weather, I know I'm going to enjoy visiting him :) I guess I have a lot to learn, but I am confident that he is getting the best training and that his safety is top priority. Well I guess I better buckle up. Looks like it's going to be a heck of a ride. LOL

Your son will get a travel briefing and orders before PIR. All the moms worry but our boys grow up fast at RTC. The officers at RTC keep them informed and he will share with you what he can when he can. My son will deply for the first time next year. He can tell us what ship he is attached to, but can't tell us where he is going. The confidentiality is for thier safety. MN and subs have the highest confidentiality because of the jobs they do on those vessels. Just remember they are well trained and ready for the job they have accepted. There is a lot of classes for MN and our sailors are in a great job with the newest technology. Your son will live SD. My son was an honor grad in A school. He was home after graduation for 10 days this summer. He won't be home for Chritmas and his birthday again this year, so we are planning a trip to SD next spring.

Thanks DallasTXmom, as far as the other day when I spoke with my son he still was thinking he was going to Texas. I would think someone at BC would let these kids know where they will be going to A schoolfor their ratings (unless they haven't got to that part yet) I wonder when he'll know if he's going to start ATT right away or has to wait. Boy is he going to be shocked when he finds all this out. Makes me wonder what other incorrect information his recruiter gave him.

My son's PIR was 12/21/12. He knew that the base in TX closed in 2009 and told his recruiter. It takes a while for them to check out of barracks at RTC and move to GL barracks for ATT school. He was in a group that was held so another group from RTC could join them before startling class. So he did guard duty, shunned his boots a lit, and cleared snow and ice. He finally transferred to SD in March. He was so glad to be in warmer climate.

Thank you Donnanavymom, I just cant believe these recruiters are so out of touch and misinforming these young men and ladies and their families. If I didn't come to join this site I would still be thinking he was going to Texas, and as far as I know my son still thinks he is. I have to go call the hotel now and hopefully add another 2 nights. thankfully  we're driving in, I would of really been aggravated if I had booked a flight out on Sat thinking he was leaving.

How is your son? Where is he stationed? does he like being a MN?

Hi Everyone, my name is Alice and my son is currently in GL for BC. His PIR is 1/10/14. I am really confused. He told me since he picked MN as his job he would be going to Texas for A school right after PIR. But from what I'm reading there is no more school in Texas for MN and it's in SD now? Plus it looks like they don't go directly there after PIR, they stay in GL for few weeks to do IT training then go to SD? If this is true how in the world wouldn't his recruiter of known this and given him the correct information? If someone could let me know the correct information I would really appreciate it, especially since at present I only have the hotel for PIR until Saturday because I thought he'd be flying out to Texas. But if he's staying in GL I can spend the whole weekend with him then. Thank You :)

Wow I am so glad that I found this group, I thought my son would be leaving for San Diego the day after PIR, that is what his recruiter told us. Lots more info here. My recruit made it to GL February 28th & graduates April 26, 2013.Thank you xraylady.

Hi Dustinsmom~

I just sent you a friend request.

I'm happy to help!  This site and the one on FB for those graduating with my son were both very helpful!

We had a similar situation with last minute scrambling for my son.

I am one who likes to know things ahead of time, make plans and be prepared.  I'm trying to get used to the unknown and last minute info.

I know what you mean about missing your son!  I really struggled with not being able to talk to mine and never knowing when a phone call might come.  He is only about 5 hours away right now, but it seems so far.  We've been to visit him once since graduation and will be going one more time before he heads to Cali.  His dog still goes in his room looking for him.  It is so much easier to communicate after PIR, though.  You can call, text and skype.  I actually kind of miss the letters that came in the mail every Wednesday when he was at BC.  Between my husband, my daughter and myself, we wrote him every day.  I would suggest writing as much as you can.  Every letter we got from my son, and every time we talked to him, he couldn't thank us enough for writing all of the time.  It's the one thing they really look forward to each day!

You will be able to give your son his cellphone after he has moved all of his stuff to his other barracks on Friday afternoon.  Also, if he has a laptop, you can bring him that.

My son did well in Boot Camp.  He and his friends joke that they don't want to ever set foot on that part of base again though:)  It's so awesome how their division all comes together and works toward the same goal.  PIR is so amazing!  You will be so proud to see your son march out with his division:)

ATT school is going well for my son, although he says it's boring at times.  They want to make sure that everyone working with the same types of things is using the same language, etc.

Please let me know if you have any more questions:)

Hi Dustinsmom~

I've also learned as I've gone along.  My son graduated BC at the end of January.  You are correct, MN stay at GL for ATT school.  My son is currently there and will be done in a few weeks.  It is approx. 2 months there, and then they go to San Diego, CA.  You will have the whole weekend to spend with your son.  On Friday (day of PIR), he will have to move all of his belongings to his new barracks.  You will have a little while to spend with him after PIR before he has to go do that.  Then you will be able to come back and get him later after he has moved everything, around 3PM.  I would suggest waiting for him at the museum, just outside the gate.  Then it's easy to find each other (he will not be able to have his cell phone yet).  Going to Sarge's Meet and Greet the night before PIR is very helpful and informative also:)
