Thank you Shelli. He actually got the phone number of a "new" MN and spoke with him and got a lot of information which was helpful. My fiance left on the 29th, so I am still waiting for his address at GL.

His recruiter thought his A school was going to be in Texas or Mississippi. I knew Texas closed, and I was like where the heck did he get Miss. from?!? Haha. I actually informed his recruiter Texas closed, and Adam would be heading to San Diego. I guess he has about 2 months of school in GL after PIR. Which will be nice since we are from the Chicago area so hopefully I can see him during the holidays. We agreed to get married around Thanksgiving or Christmas to lessen the chances of him being sent away to Japan so hopefully that works in our favor. But we shall see. We will work it out. :) I am looking forward to visiting him in San Diego when he is there for A school.. since it will still be cold in Chicago when he finally heads out there.

Hello all. My son is MN on his way to Japan from San Diego.
No, StephanieRae, most recruiters don't know anything about the MN rating. I learned everything from other moms and passed it along to my son. I knew where his A school would be before he did. The recruiters told him he would be going to Texas. He loved San Diego!

Trina, approximately how long is the electronic school for MN before they head of to San Diego? I can't seem to find anything on it. Also, A school in San Diego it says 109 calendar days, does that mean 109 straight days or does that not include weekends. Like I said before we have zero information on anything MN related. His recruiter said he's never even met a mineman. I am really praying he doesn't find out Japan. We were looking to get married Sept '13 and he will obviously get his orders before then and if it's Japan we will be devastated. Starting to look like we might have to have a JOP and have our formal wedding once he can take leave.

Hi, does anyone know typically where the Mineman permanent duty stations are? Do they ever end up in Japan?

Hi americanmade!!  Actually training is in San Diego.  My son also thought he was going to TX for training.  Apparently they haven't changed the paper that says where training is.  My son is has been in a little over a year and is now deployed to Bahrain.  If you have any questions just message me and I will try to help you out.  I don't know too much as I'm pretty new also but I will do what I can.

Hello, just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. I am new to the group, my son just left July 5th to BC and he will be off to TX for training for minesweepers.  I want to ge a head start and read postings to find out what we should expect from this journey we are about to endure.  Any comments are greatly appreciated!

So what should I expect from the time he gets his orders in a couple/few months?

Comment by Cindylaine (MN Mom) on July 3, 2012 at 12:22am

We have talked to him a few times since he left, it was mainly right after he got there.  He called our oldest son the other day.  I haven't talked to him in a while.

How often do you get to talk to him?

Comment by Cindylaine (MN Mom) on July 1, 2012 at 9:10pm

My son also deployed in June to Bahrain.  This is our first deployment and I'm a little nervous about it but we have talked to him and he sounds great.
