Supporting our military by way of cards, letters and care packages filled with love & support from HOME

This group is the perfect place to learn all the tips and tricks of packing and mailing care packages and most important, to make a difference for those serving.  PLEASE do introduce yourself in the Comments below!!

Click "NEW MOMS READ FIRST!" here or at right under Pages.  Everything you need to know!  Email newmoms@mollysadoptasailor.com with any questions.

Where is the monthly Adoptee Mailing Address?

To access the adoptees' mailing addresses, you first need to join this private group:  MAS We SHIP Love. Once approved, you can always click here for this month's ADOPTEE MAILING ADDRESS (We Ship Love)

Where is the information about this month's adopted unit or ship?

We provide information about each month's Adoptees and their Wish List in the Discussion Forum below.  For the mailing address, see link above:  Adoptee Mailing Address.

What are Packing Parties?

Ask if one is planned in your area, or hold your own with friends and family!  By carefully following a few simple rules and completing our forms, your group's shipping costs to that month's Adoptees will be paid by MAS (must be a group; individuals don't qualify).  To request information, send email to webmaster@mollysadoptasailor.com.  MAS can also provide you a letter with Federal Tax ID for requesting donations. There is some info. just to the right of this text-underneath the members photo's.. "Packing Party Information" ..Check it out.

What is the most critical or best thing you can send?  Your SUPPORT!

What counts here is the morale of our military and how we can boost it with a touch of love from home.  We have a great time here each month sharing, chatting, planning, packing and mailing our appreciation to our deployed.

Will you get a 'thank you' from the deployed military who receive your package?

We hope you do but can't guarantee it as they are engaged in their vital work and often in harm's way.  Include your email address in your note (best bet) or add a self addressed envelope (no need for a stamp on it) and paper and pen, and ask if a note is possible in your letter.  Replies and photos from our adoptee Point of Contact (POC) will be posted here and on our MAS Facebook page as they come in.

BOXES: Get APO/FPO large priority-mail boxes at your post office, OR call the USPS - 800-610-8734, say "Order supplies" and then ask for the Military Pack.  They'll send you six priority-mail large boxes for military, tape, and labels, all for free.  You can order cases of 10 and 25 online sent for free, too; choose size under "select format" at right on that page.  Send up to 70 lbs per box (that's 7.7 bricks!) at a discount of $2 below the regular rate.

Click here for your MAS (Molly's Adopt a Sailor) stickers.  Please print and add these stickers to your boxes - we get new adoption requests when these are seen on dozens of boxes in the mail!

Questions?  Please contact "PAT L in IL" at newmoms@mollysadoptasailor.com.  Pat is a wonderful source of information.  She can explain to you how MAS works and get you started.  We have a TON of fun here in our group every month, so jump in and get ready to rock with MAS!!

Joanne B., answering as a nurse, if you and your son are on steroids you have a REALLY bad case of poison ivy! (Which you obviously know.) Ouch. It must itch and burn so badly. If you have it everywhere, you might want to check with your doc before taking even an oatmeal bath - you don't want to end up with it inside those private areas. So be real careful! Lots and Lots of handwashing to prevent further spreading, & make sure the water rinses down towards your finges when you wash, don't want any creeping up your arms with the water - we tell people re: handwashing, "go with the flow". I have found my patients do well with light clothing, ex: a light cotton shirt over a tank, if the shirt gets to be too much during the day hopefully you'll be allowed to ditch it. Cool showers, cool compresses may ease it topically, just be careful you don't transfer the oil from the poison ivy to spots not currently infected. Pat dry, never rub no matter how much you may want to it'll spread and get worse. You didn't say how long you've been on the steroids. Usually they begin to act within a couple of days -- try to hang on! They truly are the gold for treatment.
Hoping to hear real soon you have seen a difference ... I'll also go back and look up any other ideas, it has been a while since I worked pedi and dealt with this.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYBODY!!!
lauren, it's been 3 1/2 years since I went thru the "baby leaving for basic" funk, but I remember it well. Hang in there......it DOES get much better. N4M wasn't around when my baby joined. It's a WONDERFUL thing and will hopefully help make the transition easier for you.
I'm planning on hitting the "Sally Beauty Supply" store this weekend for a few more things for our lady marines. They have a huge selection and pretty darn good prices also. I put the request out at work yesterday for more magazines for our Kandahar hospital group, so hopefully our troops will have some interesting reading material to help them thru the recovery time.

We will be starting our collection drive at the Women of the Moose lodge on Tuesday. Does anyone know if you can send bulk boxes to a ship or does it have to be individual APO boxes?

Sue....I laughed all the way through, thinking...SO TRUE on every single thing you said. I call it my "sailor shopping frenzies". The postlady just shakes her head when I ask for 6-8 APO/FPO boxes at a time :>) I swear, it's as much fun as Christmas was when our kids were little!! And the Stick pony, badge etc.........rotflmao!!!
Shirley.....how cool, to see one of your cards on the wall behind the sailor!!
Molly....funny how these ships all seem to have "just deployed" like you said. Hey, I think it's WONDERFUL that we are "in demand" It's such an awesome group to be a part of!!!

Does anyone know what sort of "girlie" things the Lady Marines could use? Are they allowed lipstick and/or nail polish? Any particular colors? What about hair accessories? Any limits there?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Elisa & Robin - Welcome to the fun. I'm a newby too and when I got to this room I wasn't sure how to get through the wealth of information...but as you can see, you don't have to being surrounded by these wonderful moms!
Sue - Seriously...great! Will you come help me get set up?
Marcy - Thanks for the link
Shirley - You must be in hog heaven seeing that card and smile! Yippee!
Karen - Love it!
And everyone else...you're all just great!

Oh yeah, newbees, there is a discussion called "Newsletter" and you will find the last 3 issues.
