Hi all, just checking in. Thanks for the info on zazzle and the movie Speed and Angels (will have to watch it). My son is finally at least up and flying the back seat of his jet. He was disappointed when he didn't get F18's like the rest of his buddies, but loves the challenge of the Ea6b. He was excited to learn that it will be decommissioned soon and replaced with modified F18's anyway. Happy Sunday and a good week to all. At the end of this week we head north for our first visit with him in WA!

Aviator moms, I just watched the best movie on HULU website. "Speed and Angels" telling about the life and experiences of a 2 Naval Aviators. Google in hulu, go to movies and put title in the search. Awesome. Has anyone else seen this movie? This movie lets us know how hard they are working. So proud of them all and all who assist in their efforts.

Leslie, I tried googling "Panda Express" and but only found the restaurant and the National Geographic online store with a t-shirt called Panda Express. I'll keep looking. I'd like info on this, too. RE: winging ... while it might seem a long time away ... it does go fast ad the kids usually enjoy it. Chris just lives for each day he can be up in the air flying.

Patsy, all your comments about your son's winging are so true. It is definitely an awesome and proud event in our children's naval journey. Our son was at Whiting for his Primary training, but moved on to Meridian for his jet training and was winged there last June. We did all that you recommended ... stayed on base, did the simulation, toured the base. While in Meridian, he was within driving distance of home. Now he's in WA state, far, but we'll be making our first visit to him there in another week. We haven't seen him since last July! Good luck to you and extend our best wishes and gratitude to your son!

Kathy, I am definitely the same as you. I can get all choked up just watching a comercial and the son comes home and the mom smells the coffee ready and she knows it is her son. I get teary eyed when the National Anthem is played at a ball game ...the goosebumps come on strong. Also, a news story that shows military, I can't help but wonder about their lives and their families. Pride is the feeling and thankfulness. Yes, I feel a little gooney too but it is the best!!

I'm reading these great homecomings and I am so happy for all of you and it just made me want to share with you something Andrew did this past Sept. I guess Hurricane Ike was heading straight for the Corpus Christi/Kingsville Naval air stations so they had to move all the jets etc. to El Paso. Andrew then called his dad and unknown to me booked a commercial flight to come home because there would be no flying in Kingsville for the weekend. Well I came home from work and my husband said ,"What is that big box in the garage --did you buy more furniture?" Well I said no it was probably the neighbors hiding Christmas presents for their kids. I casually opened up the garage door and there he was-- it was so surreal-- I guess I screamed so loud neighbors came out of their houses. Then all I did was cry and hug him. I guess that has something to say about the sons we have raised and the strong family bonds they feel for their families. They do know they are loved very much. Just had to share another homecoming. Can't wait to get down to KIngsville next Wed. and spoil my LTJG.

What a fun Valentine's Day Leslie!! My Derek surprised us the Saturday after Christmas. He had been at his wife's parents in Salt Lake City for Christmas. He told us he was getting back to VA before her and called and said he was on the way home and heading for the airport in SLC. He said he would call when he got to Baltimore. Few hours later he called and said he made it to Baltimore. I said well call when you get home. 5 minutes later he called and said "I am home" I said what? He said" Can you hear my horn honking?" I said yes I hear it on the phone. He said,"no look out the window...I am home!" I said you mean you're here. And there outside was Derek and his wife and our granddaughter pulling up in front of the house. What a great treat to have them home for a couple of days. So Leslie I know the thrill you are having today. ENJOY and thank him for me for what He does for us. Gail

Congratulations Leslie! and congratulations to Erin. My son Andrew had been in Corpus for about 10 months and has been in Kingsville for over a year. He will be selecting which jet he would like to fly soon and hopefully be winged in the early summer- after carrier qualifications. I will be going down on Wed. so I will have more info soon. Kingsville is not quite like Corpus , but it still is a nice warm place to visit. Hopefully we can get up to San Antonio or Austin. Andrew has been through API, T-35 and T-45 training and I am still learning. I would be happy to answer any questions if I can. Go Navy!!!

DJ: I've been out of the scene of late, but catching up. I just read about your son's cross-country. How exciting. I remember my son's cross country on the T45C ... he flew from Mississippi to Beverly MA where his aunt and uncle got to see him land (of course I was envious to not be the first). He and his instructor had a nice weekend there including going to a Red Sox's game. However, he had to pay for all this fun. When they left MA, he had to fly through the front end of a nor'eastern storm! He said he was never so scared, but so proud of himself as that; his instructor let him fly it all himself. Hope your son has sunny days. And like you I am very excited. We fly out the end of this month to go visit our son and his wife in WA!

Diane- I am very excited to hear from someone who is in Whidbey. We have visited there and it is beautiful. My son will hopefully return to Whidbey as an instructor in Nov. or Dec. of this year. Of course, as you know, it depends on the needs of the Navy
