Hey, did I tell you all that I am a first time Nana??  Samantha Jo was born on Wed., 3/23 at 6:47p and weighed in at 7lbs 12 oz and she is 21" long.  She  is just beautiful - we think!  I will try to post a pic, but sometimes I have problems with doing that. If I manage to make it work the next image will be Samantha:

Another good idea was to use the slang for where our kids are.  You know things like the sandbox, or general like just putting the Med. Another thing I was told is to never, ever put a ship's location; to remember at all times that loose lips sink ships and our enemies use the internet all the time.  For all the security we have being under the navy's wing so to speak, this is really not a fully secure site. Hate to admit it, but we don't want to give up anything for our enemies to use against our military.

We do need to be careful. I just learned this the hard way.  A spammer somehow got on this site and got my private email from a PM. Next thing I know, I'm getting a "ton"  of porn sent to me ... worse part was that they specifically mentionned seeing  my profile on N4M (which we still haven't figured out because it is set to private!). If you ever have a question or issue, make sure you report it to Admin. They were very helpful to me.  Just an FYI.

Hello everyone!  I'm a new Navy mom, my son is now in A/Sub school in CT.  He arrived this month so I am excited and nervous (my one and only). I don't have too much details yet since we only spoke once so I'm patiently waiting to hear more. Nice to connect with other moms so I don't have to go through this blindly. Take care...Candy

lwkc...I agree with Kathleen...time spent with you and his friends is important now for him.  Cook his favorite meals..things like that.  Oh and stock up on tissues then come onto N4M site for support.  We all know EXACTLY what you are going through. Good meaning friends will say it's like a kid going to college but it's not.  Remember...you will get through this...you are a Navy Mom...stay strong.

I just saw information on a Navy4mom's site suggesting that there are sailors and families coming home from Japan are in need of donations especially for children..Contact this site if interested - www.usopsa.org. I never thought about military families who lost everthing in Japan and are NOW coming home to the USA.

BarbaraR, please try not to worry - I know how hard it is to not hear. Have you signed up for a US Navy Daily Update? Great place to get real info on what's going on.  www.Navy.mil  & you can check on how often you want an update, lots of options. According to the Navy they have had some times when they have shut down email service so as to not overload the system for the Japanese people. Not quite so often now, but it does still happen. What ship is your son on? On the update, they do list various ships & what is happening with them. Perhaps your son is involved in getting supplies to the Navy ships involved in the rescue operations? So many different possibilities. Also, mail is being held because space is being filled w/supplies for Japan or transporting troops. A Molly's Mom had a very short email from her DIL on the Ronald Reagan that no mail is being delivered until further notice as there is no room for it.

Are you on FB?  If so, make friends w/Molly Gisi.  She always seems to have the very latest info for Navy Moms!!

If you want to get involved in supporting the troops I highly recommend you become a member of "Molly's Adopt A Sailor".  We are just finishing an "adoption" of 300 Marines in the mtns. of Afghanistan, but there's still time to get involved if you wish. April will bring a new group. We do one group every month, not necessarily Navy could be Marines, Army or AF ... :)  It is a very, very active site so don't become overwhelmed by it. Introduce yourself as a newbie and we even have a "Welcome Mom" who will take you thru everything!!  Molly's Moms are also providing monthly support to a field hospital in Afghanistan it is called Special Hugs and is found under one of the discussions. In a nutshell "Molly's..." general site is where we chit chat (lots of Japan issues & now likely Libya), the discussions are about our "adoptions". This month is "March to Afghanistan" & there's a separate discussion about this group "MLB Contacts". You might want to check them out.

Good luck. I'm hoping you get a message today. Try not to worry. Turn off the TV and check out the Navy's website for news.  Anything not classified or that has been de-classified is there.  And try to relax...  This is what we've been telling each other. Just like this site, we have each other's back and are there for one another.

Rely on your Navy Mom friends ~ only they understand what we are going thru because they've been there or are there themselves. Getting told to try and relax is so much easier to take from a Sister Navy Mom, than the general public!!

If I can help you in any way, with news or Molly info let me know. I'm here for you...

NYPD (aka Donna) I got that nickname from Molly's Moms and it stuck! You will see only that on Molly's group!!
