Anyone going to PIR on 12/21 ?
Comment by SheilaD on November 16, 2012 at 12:18pm

marysuemcc - My son did PIR on 10-21-11 and it was so great to be there!  You'll be amazed!  We also stayed at the Navy Lodge, also $65 a night and very convenient to the base.  we drove out there (yes, it's far!) because it was way cheaper than the airfare, so we had our car with us.   We did book it under our SR's name, and we had temporary shopping privileges at the NEX, too!  Very nice, clean and friendly.  They also give you a bag lunch/breakfast at the desk in the am, if you want, so you can take it with you as you tour Chicago during Liberty.  we ate at Lou Malnati's for Chicago deep-dish pizza and it was awesome.  All our Sailor wanted was good pizza!

Lynda N - I have tried to find you on the facebook N4M site, but I cannot!  Is there anything else I can try?

Welcome Gabe31 this is a wonderful NJ Group and informative once your son gets to GL you will get a very quick call from him to let you know he arrived safely just make sure pretty much you are attached to your cell phone 24/7 for the next 2 months during boot camp he might get another chance to call you again . Once he is in bc you will also receive a letter with more information about which group he is in and when his PIR graduating ceremony will be further down the line once he finishes his boot camp..You will also receive about 2 Weeks after he arrives at GL a box from him with all his personal belongings be ready for this in my case this was very emotional it brought me to tears and thanks to these wonderful Navy Moms in this group and other groups that you might join like the same division groups I recommend you'll find a strong bond that will last a lifetime from different parts of the USA..There is also a Navy Mom group in Facebook as time goes by any questions just ask I'm sure one of us could help somehow I wish your son the very best you'll enjoy writing letters to each other back and forth during boot campos their only way of communication for awhile just remember plain white envelopes you send to him with no cutesie stuff like stickers or hearts etc just plain old white envelopes Hang Tough and enjoy the Holidays...Maria Navy 25

Hi All, Love the information I learn from this site. My son leaves for GL on January 9. Anyone have that date? Once again thanks to all for all the help that's given from the site.

jerseysusan,  thanks again, i will look into greyhound!

Comment by JerseySusan on November 14, 2012 at 11:56pm

Beans, If you find a good flight with Spirit Airlines from Myrtle Beach, Greyhound Bus has a route from Charleston to Myrtle Beach (not sure if it goes to the Airport, you would have to check on that), and they give a 10% discount to Military. Probably will be around $35.00-$40.00.

JerseySusan,  thank you for the response.  I have been on the Spirit sight, and they definitely have the best prices.  My son is trying to find a way to Myrtle Beach...he does not have a vehicle there.

To all my Jersey Navy Moms I hope you are al doing better from the hurricane mess Thinking of you all and praying for all Our Sailors to Safely Come Home Soon,,,MarySue 2 years ago for my sons PIR we stayed at The Navy Lodge 2500 Meridian Drive Great Lakes Illinois. 800 628 9466 also at GL 847 689 1485. It's clean great area friendly helpful staff very reasonable 65.00 a night just mention that your child is a sailor and you are attending PIR they'll reserve room on their name don't know how is cost now but I think same plus best of all it's only about 5 minutes away from the base where PIR takes place we loved it also nearby there is a NEX that you can purchase food snacks etc you can go later with your sailor or ask front desk if they stil have a card that lets you purchase stuff there also you can get gas for your car if you have one and if you need a taxi there is a guy named Sarge very dependable nice safe maybe someone might have his phone number I'm not sure if I still have it I have to check if not maybe do a search on this site Good Luck bring lots of tissues a camera and dress very warm and enjoy your day with your Sailor
