Most of us have been posting discussions segregated by ship and division, but maybe we can get to know each other based on our PIR date--we will all be in Great Lakes on the same weekend.

Katieliz, my younger son is in A school now in GL. He had is PIR 11-16-09. He had to stay on the BC side of base until the following Tues. While on the BC side, they can not have anything. I took things for him to have while with me, but I took it all back and once he called with his new address, I mailed it. I have have since mailed two other boxes. He thought he could wear civies for Thanksgiving, but he can't . He is being adopted by a familiy in GL for Thanksgiving. Too bad the recruits have to stay on base.
I love him having his cell phone. I talk to him daily!

Katieliz, sleep well. Your baby is safe! I know I always slept better after the call. Now just sit back and enjoy the ride! (Roller coaster that is!) You are in good company here.

Katieliz, I got my calls around 11:00 to midnight. My first recruit called around 11:00 PM and my second one called closer to midnight. Keep your phone near! Both times, I coulodn't sleep until I got my call. Keep in mind the call will be quick and it will sound scripted. Just sound up beat and tell him you love him.

Greenlo, when is your PIR? I know that the Ramada Inn has a "Meet and Greet" on Thurs. before PIR and unless your recruit is a "Grad and Go" You will be able to spend so much one-on-one time! For my PIR, it looks like it will be only me and my 14 year old daughter. My other son won't be able to go to the PIR, but when he gets out of class, he will join us. He said he is going to try to ask permission to go to the PIR.
All I can say is that PIR is well worth it!

Ladies, here is what I have learned through my experience. Calls while in BC are in the hands of the RDCs. If the RDCs tell them to get their calling cards, they get to call. If the RDCs say "get your cards" (calling cards) and your recruit is on watch, you will not get a call. As hard as it is to except, BC does not shut down for the holidays!
I have yet to receive a letter, so I hope that my son's RDCs tell him to get his card and he calls me and not his girlfriend in Brazil! If he does, he has fewer international minutes, so maybe he can do both!
Good luck on phone calls tomorrow!
My other son is in A school in GL, and he is being "Adopted" tomorrow or Thanksgiving. At least I know he will call. He did tell me it might snow tonight. Being from the south, I think he is excited about it.

Cindy, congratulations on your son being home! What a great time to come home! My younger son is still in A school in Great Lakes. He comes on Dec.18 for Christmas break! It feels like PIR all over again waiting to see him.
My older son is doing his bootcamp now. His PIR is 1-8-09. Still no letter.

I should say that my son is where he wanted, the military,in this case NAVY.Since I can remember he always told me he'll be finishing High school and leaving. Before he even finish school he went to take the ASVAB,with a friend (who now is in the ARMY) and when I went to pick them up,he already signed for the DEP program;what I mean is that was always his dream,I got hom info about colleges and universities, but he was FOCUSED....I always support him,so here I am....but he is happy,I know, his never been or seen snow;I just put my son in GOD's hands...what else I can do,he was lend to me 19 years ago...This is life,we at some point in our lives, did the same,I aply all I am writing here to me.
GOD BLESS US ALL IN HIS MERCY !!!
