CO-TwinSalorsMom- The bakery is looking good. Do you have a grand opening date yet?

Nuke&SnipesMom- Welcome and congrats on the Nov PIR. Will you be making the trip to graduation?

Joaquin seems to have everyone on egg-shells. I live far enough west, of the coast, that I'm not overly concerned about our house. My husband filled up our spare fuel cans for the generator, just in case though. My Mom, however, lives on the water. Right at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. She's more worried about the rain that's been falling and the winds that are yet to come. It's amazing, the power of mother nature.

Hi all...just wanted to introduce myself, as I have been silently stalking the group for months ;)  My youngest son is set to have PIR on 11/6, afterward, he will be flying to Goose Creek to begin his adventure in the Nuke pipeline.  I look forward to the information and the support through this group.  Thank you all in advance.

Van - Sorry for your sailor being redirected. (Denuked sounds so negative to me) He will be able to try a different path that will be not so stressful. Best of luck to you and your son. Honored to have gotten to know you a little.

Hi all - Happy Thursday!

My fridge didn't get delivered yesterday :(  One problem after another with the delivery company so now they say maybe Friday.  Not real happy but it is what it is.

Sorry about your sailor not making it Van - tell him to be patient as it may take some time in DTP.  Look through the discussion forum above & you'll find some other discussions on this topic.  Best of luck to him and you and definitely keep us posted.

Most of you know my sailor is in VA - their ship is out on an underway & they are preparing in case Hurricane Joaquin hits them sometime this weekend ...guess it's getting pretty crazy there.  He's a CA boy so this is all new to him!  I texted his roommate this morning - he's from FL - and he said he's well versed in halting hurricanes so he's not worried!  He also said people's driving has gotten worse as the storm gets closer.  lol  All kidding aside though, praying that it's not too bad & they don't get damage or injuries..guess there's already been some flooding.

van, for those of us with sailors just starting through the nuke pipeline in A school and who know very little about the process your sailor is going through (and those before him), we totally are prepared for our sailor to experience at any given moment in the pipeline what your sailor is going through, even though we know less about it than you do presently. We always encourage and support our sailor to do their best, no matter what. And it seems you are definitely doing that... which is awesome. The fact that your sailor was identified as one who would be a nuke candidate in the first place says that he has many qualifications and skills that will be very useful to the Navy in another rate. So many have left the nuke program to thrive in other ratings. We've only been here a short time, but we've already heard of it several times before. If our own baby nuke's path is altered, we know she will find a path to serve the Navy with her talents. I guess the first thing we've had to learn about the Navy is that flexibility has to be built in, constantly. From when we get to see our sailor, or heck even talk to her while in A school, (totally different from when she was in college and could text any time of the day or night), to what she will end up doing and where she will be doing it. It really is like she's on a boat and she's not driving, and doesn't have a lot of control over where it's going. So being what we call "positively flexible" seems to be the way to view all of this. It's the only way we can wrap our brains around it since we're not as military minded. Our sailor is doing a better job with all this than we are. So support your sailor, let him know how proud we ALL are of him and that we thank him for all his efforts. Please let us know which direction he ends up going and how this works for your sailor, so the rest of us can know more about this process through what YOU learn and share with us here, if and when we need it. We would appreciate that a lot. God bless you and your sailor.

Mark & britefuture, thanks for the explanation of the Cruisebook.  There's so much we can't understand about the Navy, I appreciate it when I actually do understand something!

Johanna & NonnaB -- thank you for your wise advice!  Will definitely pass both on to my son.  He was very nervous when I first joined N4M, but now when he wants to know more about something, he'll ask if I've seen anything on here about it!  So I know he'll value your words.

Happy weekend everyone, hope Joaquin doesn't hit anyone too hard.

Sorry to hear that van. You will have to be patient, this process can take a while, but it will be OK. Once in DTP he will meet with councilors who will help him chart a new course for his Navy career. Encourage him to keep a positive attitude. I know he has had a rough time. It will get better.

Since, IIRC, he did not complete A-school, it is kind of anything goes as far as what rate they will send him to. At least it is the beginning of the fiscal year, which is rumored to be better for job availability, but in the end it is needs of the Navy, with no guarantees.

My son-in-law is an MM based in Seal Beach, CA. He likes his job and has done very well. He's been in almost 8 years.

Dear nuke moms, I really need your advice. My sailor has been denuked as he was falling behind even though he had been working very hard. He was called before an academic board but failed the interview. He will be going to DTP and will be rerated. Does anyone know where I can find more information about other rates there are available? I've heard about regular MM in contrast to nuke MM but don't really know the difference. Advice anyone?
