Here's the link to one of the STA-21 groups.  Not real active but you could probably PM some of the moms on there for more info!

KAM Mom - I had never heard of the BOOST program but after a quick google search I found the following article (from 2009).  Looks like that program is no longer around and they reference the STA-21 program (Seaman to Admiral-21).  I have heard of that and I think there might even be a group on here for it.  Don't know if it's active or not though...

Hi all - Happy Thursday!  I've been on stand-by for jury duty this week and wouldn't you know it, I got called in today! Report at 12:30. Almost made it the whole week.....

I'm going to guess May 10th - Mother's Day!

Thanks Dittersmom!  And I will keep my fingers crossed that GC has a proto grad when your sailor finishes up!

Thank You NJ Navy Mom Ship 03 Div 115 for sharing your experience and giving the suggestion, it really helped me out to decide on what to do for the future ceremonies.  =)

Regarding Graduations - I was lucky enough to go to all 3.  I enjoyed each and every one of them.

A School was small and intimate and we got to meet all of the instructors that say on the dais.  It was a very nice ceremony and I loved being able to see all the history that was displayed in the Rickover Room.

Power School was quite possible the most moving and impressive ceremony I've ever had the privilege to attend.  I've been to a lot of different ceremonies coming from both a military and law enforcement family and hands down that one took the cake.  The feeling you get is similar to how you feel when you're in Great Lakes and the Garage Door opens to a see of blue.  I truly feel it's a "not to be missed" once in a lifetime ceremony to see.

Prototype again was small and intimate and much more relaxed.  There's a lot of interaction between the audience and the dais and the sailors are in a whole different mindset due to the fact that the pressure is off.  "They did it"

I feel the word "Graduation" is somewhat of a misnomer.  All of these Graduations should really be referred to as a Ceremony.  A school and Power School are truly culminating ceremonies for the individual sections.  If you look at it that way I think you won't feel like William does that the only think that counts is the last one.  I feel somewhat the way he does myself about the use of the word Graduation.

BUT - having said all of that - I did attend all three and I'm glad I did but nothing - and I mean this sincerely - nothing topped the solemnity, dignity, sheer power of the Power School Graduation.  It really is a magnificent display of how the military struts its stuff.

Hope this helps.

I guess May 9, my granddaughter's birthday. Thanks MNMom for doing this again. You're great!

To chime in on what graduation to attend -- I agree with William's perspective that Prototype "should" be the big graduation.  However, at the recent PS ceremony we attended, one of the speakers alluded to the fact that the grads were now "done" with their training at GC and would be scattering to different locations for prototype -- kind of a sense of "let's celebrate while we're all still together."

Someone may have more info on this, but I seem to recall that for a recent Prototype ceremony in GC, that due to space limitations, only spouses were allowed to attend and parents were not allowed.  So we went to PS graduation in case we're not invited to the next one!

I definitely agree that these ceremonies are more for the families than the sailors, but so what?? !!  There's never a downside to acknowledging and celebrating accomplishments!  And if the ceremonies are a little like pep rallies for the families, that's good, too!  A little dose of positive feedback can help during the bumpy times ahead.
