My sailor starts A school classes tomorrow. It's been a long and winding road, but he's finally there! So glad to have the nuke moms group.

Babita it helped me to spend some time in my son's rooms straightening and communing with his stuff and smells. Sounds weird but I saw lots of others did the same thing. That is what this site is so great for you find out your feelings are shared by everyone else.

My sailor takes his A-School comps tomorrow morning. Huge prayers going out to him and all his classmates as they get up early tomorrow morning and head into the black hole to take the test. Praying they all come out victorious and with a big fat PASS on this silly old Comp!!!

Shihtzulover, sounds like your son is a very accomplished young man. My son is 19 and about to start A school, he's got an associates degree half during high school and the other half a year after graduation from high school. He had the best opportunities in different universities but decided it was not for him, so he joined the navy. Now I'm just hoping it turns out good for him and that he reaches his goals in the Navy, either way its amazing already. I support him all the way, that's all we can do from our side. I'm sure your son is and will be successful in everyway

Jsmom,  My son is a thinker planner kind of guy. He worked a full time job  from the day of high school graduation until he joined the navy while going to college took him 8 years to get his degree. He bought a house was doing well at his job. I thought everything was settled with him. Then he decided to join the Navy wanted to be on a submarine.  He must have really  wanted to be in the Navy.  He  always had to study a lot in school. It didn't come easy for him not that its easy for anyone. So I guess since this is something he is totally not familar with he must be really studying.  He is a little old I guess for me to be concerned about.  I just know he gave up a lot to go and hope it turns out good for him. Thats great your son was an honorman.  I over analyze also and worry to much. I really am looking forward to him getting leave.  I hope he gets to come home before Christmas but being home for Christmas would be good.

While most graduates after Power school graduation took leave my son stayed for Grad Hold? What does that mean?

What does GRAD HOLD mean?

TammySue:  My son is very young too.  He only turned 19 since he's been at GC.  He said there are a lot in class that have had some college or degrees, and most are in their twenties.

In prototype (at least after "outhull", the first ~ seven weeks), the only way they have time off over any holiday is if their shift assignment works out that way.  Once they're assigned to a crew (after outhull), the watches in the plants must be manned.  I imagine if they've completed qualifying though, they may be able to request the time off.

Thanks Js mom and Navy AF mom.  I appreciate your thoughts on what could be going on there at GC. It will probably work out ok.  Would be nice to be able to see him in person and talk.  Guess I will just have to wait for that.
