It seems like a lot of moms don't get regular phone calls from their sailors.  My son calls at least once per week, usually on Sundays.  I told him that we might not have anything new to talk about, but that I need to hear from him as much as I need air to breath.  And so he calls.

I don't ask him what his standing is in class.  If he wants to, he will tell me.  We just talk about mundane things, and I give him my love and support.

He just finished A school and is on T track.  I'm not too sure what that means, except that he has to stand watch and clean.  I asked him if he wanted to clean when he comes home on leave, and he assured me that he does not!

I appreciate all of the information that I have gotten from this site, even though I mainly lurk!

Thank you for everything,

Lise

Thank you, everyone, for your excellent advice, comments, and links!  I appreciate your taking the time to share your wisdom -- and you even answered some questions I didn't know I had!  I always feel like this group is the voice of reason.

Have also been enjoying all the good news posted recently.  Congratulations to all your sailors!  Gives me hope for the future.  Again, my thanks to all.

My dad was navy in WWII. He did't swim either he never learned while in. So it is good that they make sure everyone learns.

William in Nashua, thank you for the advice, it's fantastic, plain, simple and to the point. Will always remember when talking to my boy.

My is at Goose Creek. Been there since May 9th or so not sure on the exact date.  My husband his father had a brain anuerysm while my son was in BC.  We didn't tell him. I posted a message on Navy moms BC asking people if they thought I should. Was suggested we didn't and we didn't. But the point is I can't remember the exact date he entered GC. So much was going on at home at around the time he was getting out of BC.  Of course he knows now and all ok about that.  I think he is struggling with the class work.  He has no problems with the physical stuff. Was a workout everyday guy and ran track and all that since high school and continued through his life. He is 28 so older than most I assume. He has a Bachelors degree and is intelligent.  Still some things he has told me I think he is struggling how much I am not sure. I sure hope if things don't work out he isn't down on himself. I am very proud of him no matter what happens with the Navy. The reason I don't think its going well is he doesn't say it is going well. I don't know if he is really do bad or if he is hard on himself feeling he should be better or what. I don't hear from him alot.  Just bits and pieces.

Mine said his boots & shoes fit so he didnt get blisters but was grateful for all the band aids I sent bc he was able to share them with others.  What he was surprised by was the number of SRs who didnt know how to swim.  Dog paddled.

I am never sure what people need or find useful when they ask for advice but here goes. Welcome to the newer members.

Physical training is a lot harder at Goose Creek but by then they are accustomed to it. Boot camp is 8 weeks it is not the Navy it is boot camp. My son runs about 5 miles every other day. Avoiding injury is more important than getting an excellent time on the run.

Eat breakfast every day do not sleep in. Food is more important.

I told my son that God's plan was for him to master the material, stay out of trouble and graduate in the top third of his class, and that God expected his full cooperation in this matter, as did I. That was the beginning and end of the divine guidance topic for us. Lol.

The best advice is STUDY STUDY STUDY don't worry about the fitness scores just stay in the middle of the pack and avoid injury. Tell them there is no Plan B if they don't like nuke school. They still have to graduate like it or not.

Hi,

Who is here that has a sailor whose PIR was 5/31/2013?  I would like to connect with them here.

Thanks!

Comment by Johanna on June 30, 2013 at 8:29am
Joniana....2 words...push-ups and sit-ups... a lot! While they do some running, it's at a moderate pace and manageable. However, your Sailor will literally be doing
push ups and sit ups for hours! He should should try to run a mile every day and just do as many push ups and sit ups any time he can throughout the day.
