LA--I read a quote the other day(don't remember who said it)

"The only silly question is the one that isn't asked."

Comment by L A(MM nuke mom) on June 10, 2012 at 10:03pm

Hi, my son just graduated and is at A school too. This might be a silly question, but are Charleston and Goose Creek the same place?  It's a bit confusing. :)  I talked to him today.  He was happy to be able to sleep in until noon.  He already has some bug bites.  He sounded happy though.  He says he has to wait 2 weeks for classes to start and will have a lot of free time on his hands.  I'm happy to be able to join you all on this site.

MN Mom & GodBlessAmerica - thanks for the advice!

welcome Luvmysailor!!  First of all - go to the discussion above and look at "view all" in the bottom right corner.  Go down until you find "your sailors schedule on arrival in Goose Creek" (or something close to that!!).  Also - send him a "care package" with a few basic things - microwave bowl or cup, insulated mug, quick microwave meals, granola/breakfast bars, plastic/silver ware, snack.  Yes - there is a galley on base, but once he actually starts A school, there is a lot of late night study.  Also - a Subway gift card.  Subway is the closest place for them to eat if not the galley.  There is also a McDonald's on base, but it is a little farther away.  Ask any questions - we are here to listen and support you.

The villas start taking reservations 3 months out.  We are going for a visit in October, so the earliest we can get a reservation is July 1.  Hope that makes sense.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to Navyformoms and to NUKE moms. My son just graduated from boot camp and is now at A school in SC. What can my son expect? What should I know to help him in any way? I met so many great people at his graduation. My son is the first person in my family to go into the military so this is all new to me. Any help will be appreciated.

TJL For my sailor's 12/2 PS grad our villa reservation was made end of September.  I think others have posted about 2 months ahead or they are all filled up.  The ceremony was fantastic, but the best thing was to have our son stay with us for the 4 days.

Comment by TJL on June 8, 2012 at 9:15pm

My son started power school & graduation is Nov. 9th.  He said that 2 days of PS really kicked A-school's you-know-what.  Guess that means the next 6 months will be really really hard.  How early is too-early to reserve villas for graduation?

Its great to hear from all of you that have all ready been thru this & have moved on to prototype and to the fleet.  Gives the rest of us parents hope!
