Colleen in PA that is interesting.  Two months ago had a graduation ceremony where they announced the 50,000th graduate of Ballston Spa there is a TV news video here

http://hudsonvalley.ynn.com/content/top_stories/586077/program-grad...

On the video I could see a glimpse of what looks like family members in the audience.     I sure hope there is an graduation ceremony that the family can attend but either way will will visit him that day.

William in Nashua, you may not be able to go to graduation in Ballston Spa.  My son went there for prototype and they did not have a graduation ceremony.  We (family) were not allowed on the site. We went up to NY and stayed at a campground. We  waited at the house he was renting and went out to eat afterwards.  He stayed with us at the campground. My son graduated proto last November.

I know a lot of people say that A-school graduation is not a big deal. Well, I attended my son's graduation and the room was PACKED with families. I think there were maybe a couple of sailors who didn't have someone in attendance. It was really emotional and lovely. It was much more intimate than power school grad (the only reason I know THIS is because my son is on the color guard and got "papal dispensation" for me to attend Power School graduation Memorial Day weekend. I was going up there anyway to spend the weekend with him--attending the graduation was just icing on the cake).  I know exactly how expensive it is to travel and flying for A-school grad was just not an option so I drove 10 hours to be there. I will never regret taking the time to go. Can't wait for PS grad in November--only 135 days to go...yup, I'm counting!

We did not attend our son's A school or power school graduation either but we do plan to be there when he graduates prototype in five months.  It is  just under four hours to drive to Ballston Spa from our home.  We visited Ballston Spa two weeks ago, and this weekend he is planning to come home for the weekend with some of the friends and show them around Boston.  It is a nice easy drive through beautiful New Hampshire and Vermont to our house.

The wife and I hope he gets assigned to Groton, Connecticut submarine base that is only a 2-1/2 hour drive from here, that would be great.  Probably not what he wants but great for his parents LOL.  Future grandkids too, three boys and a girl sounds about right LOL.

Thanks bobbysproudmom, I am having trouble making up my mind. It is so expensive. When my older son was in the Army, we went to everything.  My husband is now deceased and traveling by myself  makes me nervous.  I went to PIR but had a friend to go with me.  If A School graduation is no big deal, I will try to stop stressing over it.  Think I'll start saving for Power School graduation.
