Thanks guys!  I told him I would ask my moms, they will know.  He just laughs when I say that LOL   He's going to be an ET so SN it is!

Aah!  That makes sense now!

FN (fireman) is for EM and MM - SN (seaman) is for ET (I think)

Comment by Navy Mom x3 on March 21, 2012 at 3:52pm

Robin... Are you sure it's not FN?  From what Sam said, they are classified at Firemen until after A School.

GodBlessAmerica... I am getting ready to ship the motorcycle.  Sam got the address of a Suzuki shop in Charleston that will sign for it.  Now I just have to get the bike to our office since we are never home.  We are also headed for Sand Mountain tomorrow morning so it won't ship until next week some time.  We are using www.motorcycleshippers.com, costing about $750 and taking 2 weeks to get there.

Sam mentioned that quite a few people buy bicycles when they get there but they are chained up in the weather and show it after a while.  He thought about it but just rented one for the weekend ($12) and went trail riding.

So I'm really new to this.  My son arrived in Goose Creek on Saturday and I have his address.  What does SN stand for?  Seaman Nuke?  He says he's in the indoc division so no class number yet.

Missy, my son is also in class 1225

Someone (I am sorry I don't remember who) mentioned about shipping a motorcycle.  I am wondering how you went about doing that.  I am thinking about shipping my son's bicycle.

When my son arrived at A school indoc last February the commanding officer told the new students if you show up on time, do as you are told, and look good, you will not have any problems here.    The other notable event during the first week was they were all sent to witness a public Captain's Mast where maybe 15-20 students were kicked out of the nuclear program for  underage drinking and other offenses.

It is worth keeping in mind is the nuclear pipeline is not just an academic program, students are also being evaluated according to their trustworthiness or lack thereof.  If you are under 21 you just have to resign yourself to not consuming alcohol.   If you are over 21 you are better off to avoid the company of under-21 crowd because if you see any of them drinking you must report it, and even if you report it there are going to be a lot of questions about how you were in a place where you could see it happening.  If you do not report it your punishment is usually worse than the underage drinker's.

NukeMom- if your son doesn't have his own laptop or computer, he can use the ones in the Rec Center on base. Of course, he probably would want his own laptop or computer just so he can browse or play video games in the comforts of his own room. When my husband's group arrived in SC from boot camp in April 2011, it took about 2 weeks for them to be assigned a class. They do have more freedom in those 2 weeks compared to their time in BC but they're still pretty limited in terms of what they can wear and where they can go.

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on March 21, 2012 at 12:56pm

Nuke Mom, I don't think you have to worry about too much freedom.  School requires so much of their energy once they get going it seemed to me most of them kept their noses to the grindstone. If your sailor does what he's told he will be OK.

Nuke Mom - my son had PIR on 3/2.  He started classes last Monday on 3/19.  We gave him his laptop at the airport before he left for Charleston.  To get internet they have to sign up with a provider like Comcast.  His roommate had it when he got there, but now he has to get it on his own because the roommate moved on to power school.  I don't know if they have access to computers at the NEX or another place on base.  My son said his comcast package for TV and internet will cost $82 a month. I am hoping he will be able to split that cost with his new roommate when he gets one.  He did have alot of freedom for these 2 weeks, but now that he started classes, he will be busy.
