IF THIS SITE IS RUNNING SLOW OR FREEZES UP, check to see if you are connected on CHAT.

Disconnecting from CHAT will solve the problem.  When you first log on to Navy 4 Moms, look at the bottom right of your screen. You'll see either a red dot or a green dot. A green dot mean you are connected on CHAT, a red dot mean you are not. You should surf the N4M site after you DISCONNECT on CHAT. So if you see the green light, click on it (you'll see a "connected to chat" with a check in front of the words. Place you mouse over the "check" symbol and click. The red dot should appear. I go through my whole session disconnected from chat. At the end if I have time, I go into chat for awhile. But I always make sure I am disconnected before I log out of Navy 4 Moms; otherwise, the upload will take forever when you log on the next time.

Could someone explain how the MM,EM,ET's get chosen?? I know they choose sometime during BC, but do they explain each one along with civilian jobs? Just clueless on how the Nukes decide what they want to do. My Nuke will go to BC  June 4th or possible sooner if spot available. Thanks!!

Caryn, please hang in there. My thoughts & prayers go out to your son for a positive outcome. I will tell you that about half of my son's A school class got masted last summer & as far as I know they are all doing ok. I think the beck known as the "beach party" class.

Oh Rachael, you packed his favorite pillow case.  That put a lump in my throat.  Yes, the change in our children from the day they go to MEPS to PIR is unbelievable.  I still can't get over it.  My sailor was a good kid already, but I am so grateful for the discipline and responsibility I have seen since that day a year and a half ago.  Our sailors are special people.

Lesliet...

My son just graduated from Bootcamp on 1/20/12.  We packed his laptop, phone, Ipad (grad/Christmas/Bday present) and his favorite pillow case in a blue carry.  We never intended on him keeping it but when we got to the airport, he had already checked his backpack so he got our bag.

All of the Sailors at the airport were allowed to have their phones.  They also end up with a list of phone #'s for everyone in their group. They do a lot of sitting around if their flight is later (since they have to get there around 4am) so also bring the charger.  There are plugs all over the terminal.

We were able to meet him at the USO and then get guest passes to get thru security since his flight wasn't for a few hours.  Ended up being an extra day and a half so we met him at the airport on Sunday as well.  That day, we just met at the USO and took some pics, got hugs, and marveled at how our 18 year old had turned into a man.

hello all!!

congrats to all the sailors who passed their power school comps!!

caryna---will be praying that whatever lies ahead for him, he will get through it ok.

lesliet---he should be given a black packback that he can use to put his laptop in if you meet him at the airport and you know that he can have his cell phone given to him there also.    he will have to have his laptop checked through sercurity at the airport.  i believe they just have to take the laptop out of the bookbag when going through.

Deke, since he has the Nuke contract, he will be going to Charlseton, SC. Mid-way through Boot, he will be asked which two of the three Nuke ratings he wants. (ET/EM/MM). He will then be told which one he gets. ET's and EM's attend A-School at NNPTC together for the first part, then they split up about 2/3 way through. MM's are in a separate set of A-School classes, at the same facility. Their housing is 2 sailors to a room. they usually try to "stagger" their roomate, so their roomate is 6 months ahead of them in the process. Their roomate may or may not be the same rating as them.

As far as I know, Nuke sub sailors don't even attend sub school at all. they go straight from Prototype to their sub. (as far as I know)

deke, do you know if your son is MM (machinist's mate) or EM or ET?
