Pollyanna--I will keep your son and you as well in my prayers. I can only imagine what you are going thru. I pray I don't have to go thru that but with 3 children, it is possible:(  My oldest is the one that is in Boot Camp right now. I pray that it will get better for you both!

I am currently crocheting a baby blanket for our new grandson and am working on the edging rows and I've lost my crochet hook.  grrrr and I can't remember what size I bought.  so might not be done with the blanket before his baptism.

J's mom, can you please explain further what "desensitzation" entails?

Ahh regarding the child who gives us more heartaches than we thought possible. Let's all hope we develop patience and remember not to compare them to the "nuke" siblings.  River of tears. Crying towels. Wailing walls.

PollyAnna, please let your son know it's NEVER too late ... he may be despairing and discouraged now, but with your love and support, at 22 (or 32 or 42 ....) he can make his own second chance happen. Hopefully he'll find out for himself that a network of "frenemies" is no good .. as long as he has a loving family for a safety net, he'll never fall too low or too hard. Sending good thoughts your way for a great visit tomorrow.

Nancy Jo and Pollyanna- I'm with you and going thru the similar heartache with my oldest daughter. She was always so responsible and now she's in a bad way and shuts all her family out. I feel so sad for her, and her family/friends feel that way too.

Comment by NancyJo (NNPTC) on January 30, 2012 at 5:36pm

PollyAnna, I suspect many of us can share stories of children in crisis. Yes, let your son know how much you love and support him.  Also assure him that while there are consequences to choices, there is still a lot of life after those consequences that can hold great happiness. Sometimes it's just a matter of living through the dark valley. Knowing family is there is a great comfort.

I have a 27 yr old daughter that I too worry horribly about. She should be an adult and self-sustaining yet cannot face her demons. Ordinarily a parent would employ tough love or something but we fear for her mental state if we pull all the plugs completely. In most respects she thinks so childishly. I know the worry for a struggling child.

Hang in there, PollyAnna. There is a river of prayers coming from the N4Ms. I will add your son to my daily prayers for my children.

Wow, not checking in for the weekend was a mistake!  So much happened!

Dor, I'm so glad the holiday feast went well. I have a feeling you created some great memories this weekend. You needed (and deserve) something so wonderful after the heartache of the last months. Also, good luck with the new job!  How exciting!

Welcome to all the newbies. I love hearing from you and I know you will come to love this site as much as the rest of us. I don't have as much to say as the other moms/gf/wives/whatever, but I read each and every post. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll run the gamut of emotions, but this creates a bond between us that is surely unique.

My daughter sent me this quote and it's just so perfect for us.  "I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." - Abraham Lincoln

The members with new sailors or sailor recruits, start here. Go through all the info in this Survival Guide. There are links to groups to join to get start (like Boot Camp Moms), links to the Recruit Training Command, videos, power point presentations.  If you lose track of this link, just click MAIN on the menubar, look under the middle column, it's one of the featured Discussions.

Take care. Take it one day at a time. Take deep breaths. Enjoy the time with your sailor recruit (SR). Be proud. Thank your son for enlisting in the Navy and give yourself a pat on the back - you must have done a lot of things right.

BunkerQB.

My sailor's commitment is about the end in March. Yours is beginning. Enjoy the ride.
