You moms have been busy chatting the past two days!

Just wanted to pop in to say Hi. My sister and her kids' last day in Ohio is tomorrow. :( And once they leave, I have less than a week to pack EVERYTHING and get to Clemson!

Hope everyone is having a good week. :)

One of the first things my son bought in GC was a set of flannel sheets. He loves his at home. When he was on his way home on his leave in July, he texted me, "can you please wash my sheets?" AS IF I hadn't already taken care of that - already on the bed waiting for him. After he left, I must confess I crawled into his bed for a few minutes before I stripped the bedding off (I know, "sappy"), now I know why he loves them. I felt like I was in a soft little nest. Now I want some for me!

My boyfriend was told he could have his, just not drive it. He's buying a car tomorrow. (DONT ASK WHY!!, he's a boy!)
Comment by William in Nashua on August 11, 2011 at 6:21pm

J's mom, sending them sheets is unnecessary but it makes it a bit easier to make the bed for inspections if you have fitted  sheets, so it is just for convenience because they do get Navy issue sheets but they are not fitted sheets.

Regarding the car we drove my son's car down there, since the car is in my name I wrote a "to whom it may concern" letter saying that son has my permission to operate, maintain and repair the car while he is in SC.  The Navy did not look at the letter, it is just there in the car if a question ever arises.

In Phase 1 the sailor cannot drive the car anyway so we waited until he was in Phase 2 or 3 before delivering the car to him.  Hope that is useful.

elizabeth- sadly, no. My English teacher was the one who fired him. He helps support me through military stuff since he was in it. He's got some super funny stories too. And its so weird to think of him as a drill instructor because he's the sappiest guy I know :)

J's Mom, he should be able to have it, and keep it parked in the lot, just cant drive it until he phases up to that. My boyfriend said that black shoe polish was the best thing ive ever sent him. the little thing like this,

because then if some little scuff gets on his boots he can quickly touch it up with that, and not have to repolish them completely:)

Bandito's mom...so so sorry for the loss, will be praying for the family.  I do agree with Pollyanna, the sailors are pretty tough.  While it does affect them, I think they do a fairly good job of dealing with the losses.  My son's great grandfather passed a way a few weeks back.  They would not let him leave to go to the funeral, was a great grandparent--he was still in power school at that time.  THey told him if it was a grandparent or parent or sibling, he coulda left.  He was sad, it was a shock as he was in very good health...just old age, I believe he was about 88.  But my son did fine with it.  DId great on the test the next day...one of the best he took actually.  Weird, huh?  I think he did so well to prove he could do it, and as a tribute to his great gpa.

but, will still be praying that they do ok, everyone grieves in their own way.  I do hope he is ok!

Amanda, That is just appalling!!!  If true, I can understand why he was fired.  How terrible!

I really hope their was some myth to that story.  It's awful.

My High School English teacher was a Marine Boot Camp supervisor of Drill Instructors. He said that one drill instructor decided to tell his recruit that his father died by lining everyone up and saying "everyone here who has a dad, raise your hand" and when the recruit who's dad just died raised his hand he said "Whoa Smith, put that hand down, no you don't". Needless to say, he was fired after that move.
