I have a question for all of you...my son said in his last letter, he was told that since he was on ship staff in BC he would automatically start at Phase 2 in A school. I don't know who told him that...and he just said he hoped it was true. Anyone know??

OK HELP .. MY SON IS IS JUST ENDED PHASE 1 IN A SCHOOL..I HAVE MADE AIR RESERVATIONS TO GO SEE HIM ON AUG 5TH WEEKEND FOR HIS 21ST BIRTHDAY .. IM STAYING IN NORTH CHARLESTON AT A WHYNDAM HOTEL.. IS THERE ANY RULES I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ?

Ok, I finally see the bouncing beach ball.  I usually follow this site on my iPad, but apparently, it is not completely compatible with the site.  I have had a small problem when I go into the discussions forums, but hadn't really noticed anything else.  Last night, I was seeing the comments about the page banner with the bouncing ball that rolls off the page.  I must have watched the banner for 10 minutes and that ball never moved.  Today I checked the site at work on my PC, and I finally get the graphics!  Makes me wonder a little bit if any of my posts have looked odd (or more odd than usual) ;)

William, the part about all sailors having to move after they graduate Power School is not true.  My son is still living on base in Goose Creek for Grad hold and so is his room mate who was at least two months ahead of him to graduate. I am aware of the money for food going in and then out.  It was Binker's mom's comment about the economy I didn't get.

As soon as they graduate power school they have to move into an apartment somewhere be it Ballston Spa or Goose Creek.  Then they are getting paid BAH and BAS allowances.  If they are at NPTU or on grad hold, I should think their allowance would be the same in either case.  What am I missing here?

 

Also all sailors get paid BAS but if they live and eat on the base they have to pay back the Navy an amount equal to their BAS so it is a wash.

It's been interesting reading about all the talk on weddings.  I do agree that  the more simple weddings tend to be more beautiful and the ones you remember. 

My wedding was very simple and beautiful.  We had an evening  service at our church with ribbons tied on each pew and just a few flowers and the whole church was lit by candlelight.  We hired a couple of singers to sing a few of our favorite songs.  After the service we had a reception of sandwiches, nuts/mints, punch/coffee and cake.  It was held in the church basement so it was affordable.

My favorite wedding that I'v attended was my uncles 30 years ago.  They had a late morning service at their church.  During the service the groom sang "Three Times a Lady" to the bride.  When he finished singing I don't there wasn't a dry eye in the entire church. Their  reception in the church basement  and was very simple.    For entertainment they had a pinata  and everyone had a blast!    The best part was waiting for the ride to take them to the airport for their honeymoon.  The bride had no what she was waiting for.  At one point a motorcycle with a sidecar came around the curve and you should have seen the look of horror on her face.  Luckily, that wasn't their transportation.  A few minutes later we heard a helicopter and it landed at the church to pick up the bride and groom.  We were all shocked including the bride.  The whole day was full of fun surprises and that's what made it so memorable!  :)

Hi Binker...Didn't understand your entire post.  My son is on grad hold and he said they have a great new commanding officer that really cares about them.  He has made it possible for them to stop eating on base and get pay for food.  He is also looking into a 12 person mini bus to take them to some of their jobs.  What I don't get is your statement about, "those who are working on the economy."  Please explain.

rumor mill news from Binker this morning:

Those on hold who are working on the economy may move over to rats since they cannot eat on base while they are out in the community. that would be nice since my two dont eat much on base since they are both vegetarians (you know the boy who has a "bacon song" he made up at 4 is in love when he starts eating veggie bacon!

Road the train from Syracuse to Boston a couple of weeks ago and the Ballston Spa area is BEAUTIFUL. Plus, the train goes right through it and most of the time trains within NY have fantastic prices. Took 8 hours from Syracuse to Boston so can make some calculations about distances via train.

I have to throw into the pet conversation. My dog was 16 1/2 years old when we put here down...got her when I was about 5 and she was a few months old. She was half black lab half rotweiler! You would think with the rotweiler in her se would have been mean but the lab part took over. she was the nicest sweetest dog! but also a great watch dog and very protective of my 2 sisters and me. Over the years she developed very large cysts on her thighs (a few the size of grapefruit!) and we had them removed. poor thing my dad had to pysically stand her up so she could walk around cuz right after the surgery she was in too much pain to move herself. luckily they were not cancerous. we had it tested. few years later we put her down for old age. her back legs would give out on her and she was losing control of bowel/bladder. Mom and dad took her inbetween thanksgiving and christmas break so we all could see her one last time but wouldnt be home for it. that was not fun coming home 3 weeks later to a dogless house. this was 3 1/2 years ago though
