Emily, yes, we stayed away from all those cops on the interstate--we did see quite a few of them. I confess I don't stick to the speed limits so strictly when I'm in Michigan, but when I'm out of state, I know my out of state plates are like magnets to those state troopers. We just set the cruise control either at or slightly above the speed limit; the other drivers aren't always too happy with us, but we really don't need those $$$ speeding tickets!
TN Navy Mom--yes, just spending time with you sailor will be enough! We had such a short trip that we didn't get to use too many coupons, so I left them with my son to use and for his buddies to use. Whatever is left we will use in August when we're there for ps grad.
Also - make sure you have your sailor go to the ITT office either before you get there or when you just get there. The Charleston map you get there has quite a few coupons, and we got our tickets for Patriots Point and Ft. Sumter there also. Also, my son has inherited the thrifty gene--he wore his uniform to PP so he could get in free. As he put it, $15 is $15!
Casey I think you're exactly right! And what does a girl Nuke equal? 12 regular recruits? ;)
Good luck to your daughter, Mary! Physical therapy, right? :)
Michimom- I'm glad you had a great trip! Did you stay away from all those cops on the interstate? They were out like crazy yesterday!
I have yet to see Patriot's Point. Guess I'll have to do that when I head that way in a few weeks. :)
Our recruiter for Diego was pretty good about things. He put him in contact with other "Nukes" before he did the final signing. Diego is the type of guy that researches and gets all answers before making final decisions.
Now, Korey went to meet with the recruiter a few weeks back with me. There are two "new" guys in the office and honestly they don't know much. The gal before them was a "cook" and knew nothing! She was there before Diego left for boot camp and it was so hard on him, she wasn't any help to any of the guys and what guy is going to sit and chat with her about the Navy? None did and it was challenging the last few weeks.
Korey wants to go SEAL, the recruiter has given him a phone number and he will place a call once school is out. He doesn't have the time right now with baseball still going on and year end school stuff. He won't make any final decisions anytime soon, we will have to sign for him until he is 18 if this is what he still wants to be over the next year. He is pretty much set on it, so we don't see any issues at this time.
Thanks Casey for the info on 1 "Nuke" = 4 "regualr." I never knew that! Interesting!
Our daughter, Kacy will also be going Navy when she graduates in three years. She has decided on EOD, though I don't want that. She is a pretty gutsy girl and would do well with whatever path she chooses. Time again, will tell!
Hey, all! Back from our whirlwind trip to visit our sailor. We arrived on Friday about 6 pm (24 hours from leaving home), and got home last night around 10:45 pm. Yes, googlemaps was correct when it estimated travel time--14 hours in the car. Not great, but not horrible, either. For such a brief visit, we did have fun. Visited Patriots Point and Ft. Sumter, did a bit of a walking visit in Charleston, went out to eat (our sailor treated us to dinner--what a sweet young man he is!), and spent Sunday at Folly Beach with some of our son's nuke buddies.
Moms, if any of these young men in power school set to graduate 8/12 are your boys, well, they were all very nice:
Hayden from NY
Chris from MN
Dan from AZ
I'll post some more details on the Visiting Goose Creek discussion, but I will say that our stay at the Villas was so convenient. I'm hoping we can stay there again for power school graduation, but we'll see.
Oh, by the way, our sailor did mention one rumour he heard: for those who are not presently on grad hold headed to prototype, prototype WILL be in NY. I don't know if this is just for MMs, though. At least NY is closer to Michigan.
hey Krismom, my son PIR 4/29/11 and left for GC at 0600 4/30/11. He didn't start A school until 5/23/11...He's an ET, but I think the MM's that had the same grad. date started a lot sooner. The ETs and EMs had the long wait...
Dor, how's the drive?
Sharon, praying that Diego does well!
Loving the stories about newlyweds and the Navy. My Grandma was an Army wife for years, Grandpa was an Army Colonel and oral surgeon. Their honeymoon was driving a car from Oregon to San Antonio along with a little dog her sister gave her as a wedding present. At one point, the dog fell out of the car and Grandpa had to give him mouth to muzzle resuscitation! All I can say is, WRITE IT DOWN! Start a journal of your Navy life together...it won't take long to forget some of the details, and it will be a blessing to you and future generations. :)
