Connie- hehe. He is a sweetheart. A sweetheart with a big heart. He truly loves his job-- I can't see him doing anything BUT protecting our country. Sadly, no girl has been smart enough to snatch him. He was engaged once-- but when he left for deployment, she sent the ring back to him. So so sad. She was extremely high matience and had a new boyfriend within a matter of DAYS. Military marriage material, I think not. The number one rule to not make the Marine mad: don't touch his hair. Oh, and the lesson I learned when he was on leave, don't slap him while trying to get out of a wrestling match. He flipped into Marine mode and almost DID kill me. :/

Oh and we did use the Domino's pizza ones when we were there, then they had the deal again so I sent my son some of the Groupons for them.  What a great deal and there's a Domino's about 3 miles or so straight down the road from base.

TN Navy Mom - on our recent visit to Charleston, we used a few of the restaurant.com certificates.  We got a $50 off $100 one for the Noisy Oyster, which is in North Charleston, and several other locations, and it was great.  We also had a $50 off $100 one for an Italian restaurant down town.  It is a local place.  We had the best time because there were 4 of us and when we walked in I told the family "order whatever you want, even appetizers because we have to spend $100."  How often can you do that?  it was a lot of fun and both times our order came to $102.  I use them a lot around Phoenix.  If you don't have a discount code for them, just do a search for "discount codes for restaurant.com".  They have one almost every week it seems.  We had several really good Groupons too, for the Battery/dungeon, for a historic carriage ride, and for a haunted jail tour.  Keep watching for deals.  They work great.

There's also living social! If you click this link, you get $5 free bucks to spend anytime (and so do i :) this is a shameless plug, yes). They have deals for Charleston AND just added the Albany, Ny area for those moms with sons in Ballston spa!

Penny, Groupon hasn't had anything great for Charleston lately (not anything we would use) but I get the email everyday!! Haven't tried Tippr and DealSwarm (I will now).

got a promo code for Restaurant.com and had already talked to my sailor last night about some of the restaurants but wanted to check with "experts" before I bought them.  Just got $200 worth of certificates for $29 and change.  Even if we don't use them while I'm there, I can leave the certs with them and they can use them later.  Low country food, bar and grill, shrimp shack, etc!!!

emily, your cousin the Marine is the epitome of what a military man should be; made my heart melt, too, just like yours, about taking care of Grandma. Neat story, because I just read a magazine piece about Gene Autry's "Cowboy Code" ...1. The cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage. 2. He must never go back on his word or a trust confided in him. 3. He must always tell the truth. 4. He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals. 5. He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas. 6. He must help people in distress. 7. He must be a  good worker. 8. He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits. 9. He must respect women, parents, and his nation's laws. 10. The cowboy is a patriot. ...... We should all hope our sailors are cowboys, too!!
