Wow, aaronsgirl you have quite a following, and it makes me smile LOL.  Yes she is a great person and helpful and open and honest!!!

arrons yes I know....but it was just a reality check for him.  I actually figured it out for E-3, E-4, & E-5 so that my husband could see it.

hahaha. I'll definitely keep my eye out for you Bunkerbee. :) No guarantees though... I don't have a lot of friends simply because I can't believe how unbelievably stupid 90% of my high school is!

@aaronsgirl, I knew there was a reason I want my sons to marry someone like YOU. My sailor is great with money management. He didn't buy a new car. He took our old car. Has saved a nice nest egg. His younger brother needs help. Luckily he seems to have the Midas touch - just needs a wife with "aaronsgirl" skills.

@aaronsgirl, please keep an eye out for potential DIL for me. There'll be a finder's fee for you. A big fat finder's fee. :)

A single sailor's paycheck does look pretty crappy... But that's only the base pay. That doesn't include the housing they're receiving for free (over 8 grand if he went to college), the food their receiving for free at the galley (meal plans are super expensive at colleges), and the free health care... where else can you get that besides the military?? The paycheck they get is more than enough for them to live off of. Aaron may not think so but that's because 90% of his paycheck each month goes to student loans, car payment, car insurance, more student loans, internet bill, etc. 

The paycheck does start to look better once they get married. Example: Aaron and I plan to be married when I'm in college. If I'm living in the dorms at school (hopefully on a full ride) and he lives in the barracks, we would still get a monthly BAH payment for housing. Around 1000 a month (more or less depending on where he's stationed/i'm at school). Then, his pay for his food comes and that adds an extra 200 or so a month. When Aaron is on deployment he'll get sea pay (sub pay, too, if he goes sub), plus we'll get a separation pay (around 100 a month) from the Navy. Not to mention the free health care for me and whatever family we decide to have (having babies is supposedly "free" in the military ;) ). 

It all adds up quickly.... You just can't forget about those big benefits they're receiving that don't show up in the bank account. :)

Mary ain't that the truth! LOL.  I kinda thou had to laugh when my son and his finacee were sitting at one of our favo food places and he thought the pay scale was listed 2 times a month, and I told him NO that is the MONTHLY pay scale, he didn't believe me so he asked his recruiter, and I was right.  Then he said how do I live on that much money, I said that is why we kept saying over and over, go get your degree first then go into the Navy as an officer.  But really I think once he finishes Boot and the total of A School he will be fine to be able to start a family. If not before.

Snow for South Bend is predicted to be 2-5 inches tomorrow and 18-24 Tues evening with LOTS of lake effect!  Hurrah :-S   I see were GC is supposed to dip into the 40's on Wed.

Thanks Dora, aaronsgirl and Michdang!  I wasn't sure and wanted to ask.  I hope he will send a letter home once he finds out.

 

WE are supposed to have a high today of 70 degrees.  But my building is cold I work for the government and they turn the heat down to like 60 over the weekend so when you come into the building on Monday they are cold as they don't turn it up until after 8am.

TxLady- They find out which rate they'll be, ET MM or EM, during boot camp. Week 5 is (or used to be at least) the career week. This is the time when they'll have special meetings with just Nukes and they'll learn about what the rest of their time in the Navy will be like. They'll put in their requests as far as which they want during the beginning of the week, and at the end of the week they'll find out which they get... It seems like a lot of guys don't get their first pick... It's all up to the needs of the Navy!

 

I've heard up to a foot, I've heard over a foot, and I've heard 6-12.... That's not the worst part though. The worst part is the ice and freezing rain we're supposed to get. Not to mention the below zero temperatures!! We have a winter storm watch from tonight until Wednesday. Personally, I'd really appreciate it if the storm cleared up my schedule for the week... I have so much homework and so many scholarships to do that I have no idea how I'm going to get it all done!! I'm a little bit stressed out right now... Not even sleeping at night :/
