Hello jgoody/new Nuke mom :

I would love to hear your report of the A school graduation.

When did your nuke start his A school ( was it the 14 week or 6 month)? Were there any delays during the school?

When did you know that it was safe to make your travel plans?

When they get out of A school do they have to move from their rooms and find new rooms while they attend power school?

Thanks for your help!

Enjoy graduation and time with your sailor!

~~~Josie
My Sailor arrived at GC a week ago. Do you know what will be available for him to celebrate Thanksgiving?
My son is graduating A school on 12/03 & I am going for the graduation . Is anyone else going, or can offer any tips about it?
Musicmom- They are allowed to have their own cars on base (and drive them) once they are Phase 2. They'll move to Phase 2 after four weeks of classes as long as their grades are good and they pass their PFA (Fitness test). So if he's phase 2 by Christmas break, then he should be able to drive his car back after Christmas break. However, he'll need to check with his chief and such so that all the rules are followed. He may need to put a special chit in in order to get permission to drive back. There are rules according to how many hours a day they can drive and during what hours they can drive during. I'm sure not everyone follows the rules... but I'm not advising breaking the rules...
I don't know exactly when my son is coming home either. He won't tell me. Wants to surprise me. lol
We're hoping he can drive his car back on New Year's Day but he hasn't heard yet when he will be allowed to drive his car there. Anyone know when they are allowed to have their own cars? He will be about 4 - 5 weeks into classes by the Christmas break.
My son is in SC after PIR on 11/12. He hasn't started classes yet, and has been busy edging the post. He asked for a power edger for Christmas. :-)
Seriously, he says that he is getting his plane tickets, but I don't know when he is coming yet. How easy is it for him to get cheap tickets?
Welcome, Labmom!
I'm still waiting for specifics, but my son will be coming home around the 19th and returning the 29th. Leaving a little breathing room for bad weather, and I guess also saving up leave days. Plenty of days home for me to be happy, but we'll miss him on Thanksgiving--his first Thanksgiving away from home.
So nice to hear from the moms who are so happy to be seeing their sailors for the holidays. I can just feel the smiles. :)
My son got his plane ticket home for Christmas. He said they told him yes, he would be able to come, just hasn't officially been approved yet. He is coming Dec. 18 and returning on the 31st as the ticket was a bit less to come back a day earlier than originally planned. I think he lands there around midnight on New Year's Eve, so I guess he won't be out doing anything "wrong" on New Years. ha.
How far is it from the airport to base and is there transportation other than taxis available?
I saw this and couldn't help but pass it along. I think some of you were talking about getting a Flip camcorder for christmas for your sailors. This site called http://www.1saleaday.com/ I found from the today show has one for $20
He's in T-track waiting for Power School. I can't decide where would be a safer place for him to celebrate his 21st birthday. Goose Creek or home? He will be home. Will your son be home on his?
