Kat, my son did the same thing - around $700 at the NEX, and come to find out he bought a laptop. He also got his own cell phone, which required a $400 deposit (no credit yet). Because he spent so much, his bank put a temp hold on his account until he called them to confirm it was him spending the money.
Yeah, I'm thinking about changing my name too, now that we're on the next leg of this journey.

Sorry for the short message, pushed the wrong key.

He says the base is very nice, lots of woods.

I sent his cell, but the mail room is closed on the weekend. He will have to try and get his package on Monday.

He thinks he will not start A school until after the 2 week Thanksgiving break?

He says he has trash duty, walks around and takes the trash out and puts in new liners.

Hello!

Spoke to my son today. Many of the 11-5-10 PIRs will be starting A school on Monday. He thinks since his last name is lower in the alphabet he did not get placed in Monday's class. He bought a bike to get around the base, but says he will not ride in to town since there is lots of junk on the street and he already got a flat tire from riding back from Walmart to the base.

He says they have suites, 2 in a room with a bathroom in the middle and another 2 person room on the otherside.

He did see an aligator sunny himself on the side of the road

wamomofchris and Sailor'sGirl, The Navy uses both Midway and Ohare airports. I live in the Chicago area so if you have questions, drop me a message.

I would recommend renting a car instead of paying for a taxi even if you just use it to and from your hotel. if you haven't already booked airfare check into flying into Milwaukee instead of Chicago -- it's a little closer and a much easier drive.

Just another note on liberty (because we made this mistake) my boyfriend knew he would be going to South Carolina on Tuesday and thought he'd have Liberty until then. But they do have to be on base all day that Monday!! They'll be cleaning and packing. So we ended up staying in Chicago until Tuesday morning, which worked out nice because we ended up meeting his division at the airport and was able to give him his laptop and some of his buddies their phones since they can't take them back to base with them on Sunday. We spent about 2-3 hours with him at the airport. And if you are thinking about this, you'll have to be at the Chicago O'hare airport at about 1am or so. They bring by buses every 2 hours or so but you won't know which bus your sailor will be on or what time the flight is. The USO office is super nice and helpful.
