Thanks ladies.
Actually, miraculously he just sent me a message on Facebook. He DID buy something big at the NEX, an ipad. So he can at least send messages via internet. He said not to send anything until after Monday when he will class up and find out his new "division". I would assume there is a division number or some identifier to put in the address? would make mail sorting much easier. He said if you just send things to the address without that number they could be lost for weeks.
Anyway, at least I know he's alive, ha. I knew it from all the charges he was making yesterday on his debit card.
Sounds like things are going well this week. I'm sure he's glad it is warmer there than it was in Great Lakes last week. He's an Arizona boy so not used to all that cold.

Thanks again for the info. I really appreciate it and look forward to talking with all of you more.
Oh, should I change my login name? It seems that now boot camp is over I don't need the ship, division and PIR date any more.

Unless you're sending cookies or other perishables, seems like this schedule works for mailing post office flat rate boxes: send on Saturday, they should receive by Tues or Wed. Or send Monday, and they'll have by Thurs or Fri. Like others have noted, post office delivers on time, but Sat and Sun there may be no pickup of mail by the group's mail person.

If he hasn't started A school yet, which it sounds like he hasn't, then you can send it to this address:

FN Last Name, First Name
Class: Indoc
101 NNPTC Circle
Goose Creek, SC 29445

The only thing that will ever change in that address is his rate (the FN will change to EM3 OR MM3 OR ET3 when he graduates A school) and his class. For example, when he starts A school, the second line will read "Class: 11XX" When he's on T-Track after A school, the second line will read "Class: T-Track" etc.

They don't have their own mail box (unless they choose to buy one). Their mail all goes to the same address, is sorted out, and then someone in their class (called the mail PO) is responsible for distributing the mail (ideally, once a day monday through friday, but that doesn't always seem to happen).

sorry, something happened and my message was sent before I was ready.
anyway, he spend almost $900 at the NEX, so I highly doubt that was all for his room. I know he wanted to get several more uniforms for his daily wear, but they coudln't have cost that much either. It never stops does it, the worrying I mean. And wanting them to be responsible.
One of his buddies from bootcamp finally called his mom this afternoon. he said there are pay phones, but they are pretty busy all the time, so you have to just wait it out, but there are also computers in the NEX that they can use. Or borrow someones phone. Guess we'll see what happens over the weekend.
Thanks for welcoming me in. I'll need all of your advise for sure.

aaronsgirl11, michimom, and others - thanks for all your "experience" with your Nukes. i really don't expect more than maybe a couple texts a week, and maybe one call a week, BUT... he doesn't have his cell phone yet. He has to call me to give me his exact address so I know where to send it. I have the base address, but I'm assuming he will have a building number and room number, and I think he said his new "name" is F (for Fireman) then his first initial and last name. Is that right?
I woudl like to think that his expenditures at the NEX were for his room, but......

Related to mailing things:
1. The kids at the local elementary school collected things for my brothers sub. My mom and I just expected letters and cards, but we ended up with over 170 pounds of stuff to send! (We only sent 170 pounds of it. There was two large shopping bags extra that we donated to another local program that was being sent to soldiers). She ended up paying $200 in shipping! She said next time she'll just give the $200 to the Ombudsmen and they can go shopping for what the boat needs. :)
2. Aaron volunteered to be the mail PO for his class... I'll have to let you ladies know if that actually speeds up the mail process. He said he just goes at lunch everyday to pick up the mail. I sent him a package on... Tuesday or Wednesday. We'll see how fast those 3-5 days go. :)

pmgcakes- I like to try tavelocity.com. they give flexible dates to try. A taxi driver once told me that Charleston was one of the most expensive airports to fly in and out of. while you're finding holiday prices, regular prices aren't a whole lot better either I've found.

The best way to get to and from the airport is either finding a fellow sailor with a car or buddying up to get a taxi. Someone a few pages back gave a list of the best taxi drivers to ask for and the company name. Otherwise there's yellow cab too.
