While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son just arrived at Goose Creek on Tuesday. I'm sending his laptop and cellphone. Does anyone know what kind of internet connections they have there or does he need a laptop card for internet access? He didn't seem to know at this point and calls are few and inbetween since he doens't have his cell phone yet.

Went to the recruiter's office yesterday to tell Andy's a "Fair Winds" as he transfers to Texas. It was hard to hug him farewell---where would we be if he had not recruited our kid and helped turn him into a responsible adult?!

As Ginny said 'WOW JEANNE....sounds like you are talking about my son!!!' -- mine also. He's extremely bright, but in 1.5 years of college, he had been on probation at 3 different schools. He just didn't want to do what they wanted him to do. He made the decision to join the navy about a year before he actually did it and I've been worried about him following through. He's half-way through boot camp and looking forward to going to GC.

Comment by Chris on June 17, 2010 at 7:19am: The Right Thing -- Shipping a car is not a big deal, but, it can be expensive depending on distance. Google "car shipping". Sometimes we fly drivers in to pick up cars and drive them back (or vice versa) to minimize the expense.

Children sometimes surprise you by doing things you never dreamed they would do. Yes, our nukes are a special breed.

Comment by Mark on June 16, 2010 at 10:45am: @que - I'd be surprised if anyone got dive school after Power School. It could be though, I suppose. When I was in, dive school was something that a sailor would reenlist for in order to get. I don't know about carriers, but subs have about a half dozen qualified divers in the crew, about half of which are nucs.

@Ginny - Power School comes between "A" school and Prototype, and academically, it's the most challenging leg. Academically, your son should be fine in "A" school, coming from CT schools, but the amount of work expected of him will take some getting used to. How much trouble they have in Power school is largely dependent on how strong they are in math and science (physics mostly), especially the math.
