See there is a restaurant question. If they can get to East Bay Deli--it's pricey but oh so good. Great huge sandwiches, soups and salads.

Our sailor is in prototype and has had the upper respiratory yuckies too.

I would also have him/her check with the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Office (MWR) they have the inside information on discounts for all sorts of things including travel.
Comment by LLovesmysailor on September 3, 2009 at 5:00pm
There are military discounts they are just not advertised. They have to call the individual airlines to book their flights. Have him check with one of the Chiefs, they know all that stuff.

Laurie, my son got married after power school. Dress blues are fine.

Lorraine, my son has same, the place where he gets the cash charges and his bank charges also. He is aware and only gets cash when he needs and takes larger amounts (not just a 20 or so), cash back at a purchase would be better. My son has finially learned after bouncing a few checks at $29.00 each. It's a painful learning experience but they have to learn it. All my "lectures" didn't seem to make a difference, but losing chunks of money by being stupid finialy did. We moms want to prevent these 'hard lessons' but I'm sure I didn't heed most of my mother's 'lectures' and had to learn the hard way. BUMMER

My son uses Bank of America for his main account and it's the one his pay goes in. I've noticed he gets hit with a $2 ATM charge for using the NFCU ATMs. Does anyone know of any other ATMs on base at GC that don't charge to withdraw money? I just hate to see him throw away $2 several times a month. I've tried to address his habits and how he uses his money, but he's still pretty green when it comes to his spending habits. He has a debit card so would it be better to encourage him to get cash back when he makes a purchase?

Cathy, my son starts power school in October but I haven't heard the date yet. He's home this week, first time since BC so I'm really enjoying this week.

My oldest son got his mortgage from USAA and they understood about housing allowances and other military pay issues. He also got a great rate.
Comment by LLovesmysailor on September 2, 2009 at 6:53pm
There is another good thing about USAA. They are the only insurance company who's renters insurance will cover personal items lost or stolen while they are on board their ships or subs and while they are moving between duty stations.

Mrs. Andy - it is really hard once they are away from home and are sick. My son needed surgery on his shoulder during prototype. He was about a month before finishing. They rolled him into the next available spot, once he had recuperated from the surgery & rehab. The good thing was he was able to come home for a short while. I'll keep your son in my prayers.
