For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

It was nice to be able to get housing, but we didn't get to see much of each other. The schools are so intense and they take up so much of each day that they are rarely around. I actually went to visit my parents while he was in Prototype and he didn't even notice I was gone for three days. LOL. In all fairness he was on night shift and just thought I was out shopping or something when he came home.

I've asked him if he wants us to brng anything when we come for graduation but he said no they told them they shouldnt bring anything with them when they go to SC - but i bet he didnt even think about a calculator, we have a couple graphing ones from when he and his sister were in high school, maybe i'll bring it just in case

Also, if he's been vomiting that long, it can damage some tissues and they like to check and see if he needs some meds to help with the healing. I'll keep him in my prayers, It sounds like he is getting good care

Comment by Mark on September 1, 2009 at 3:29pm: Regarding calculators at power school - there was a policy some years ago that students couldn't use calculators on a test that could store equations and formulas (or lots of text) in memory. Dunno if they still have that policy - but they might.

You can give him his electronic stuff there. Also, I live in Chicago so if I can answer any questions, be sure to let me know. Pat

Comment by Mark on September 1, 2009 at 12:09am: Be careful committing to a specific airport. It could be that flights to Charleston are all out of O'Hare - but the Navy books a lot of graduating recruit flights out of Midway in Chicago also.
