Hugs, Wendy. Maybe you can send a camera to him and have him get a buddy or someone to take some pictures for you. Hey, he knows you care and would be there if you could. That is very important.

It could be worse. My parents were in Saudi Arabia for most of the school portion/early years of my Navy career. Not only did I rarely get to see them, but there were no phone calls and letters took forever. I was in Japan by the time they came home. But I knew they loved me and they cared, that they were proud. That meant a lot to me. Cherish what time you do have together, and enjoy the calls. He will understand when you cannot be at his side, or he at yours. What is in the heart is often what matters.

The travel guy who is on our local news once a week says the airlines hold back some fares and release them on Tuesday afternoons. The best prices are often available then. He's pretty reliable, I hope it is true and helpful information.

I couldnt' find the edit. His Power School grad is June 5, not the 12. Not sure where the edit disappeared to.

We did not go to our son's A-school grad as we were going to see him two weeks later for Thanksgiving. He said there were only a few family members there. Afterwards, a lot of the guys, the instructors and the family members that were there are wanted to go all went to Smoky Bones for lunch. We are planning on going to his Power school graduation on June 12. He is absolutely loving it - just spoke to him tonight. Had a big test today and got his highest score yet - 3.91.

On another note - he has been there since May 2008. He and his best friend and going to be in another friend's wedding this Saturday (these are guys he met in his first week in Goose Creek). When I mentioned how nice he would look in his uniform, he said no - I'm wearing my suit. I asked - did you get a new one?? No, I brought it back with me when I came back at Christmas. I told him - there is a suit in your closet. Guess what - he only thought he took the suit back. I have been rushing around here trying to get it ready to be mailed. Gone to and called post office. They say it would "probably" get there on Friday if I mail it "express" tomorrow. UPS says no problem getting it there by 5 on Friday as long as I get it mailed by 5 tomorrow afternoon. I will be waiting at their door to mail it in the morning. Sure and glad I happened to call to check on something else. Keep your fingers crossed his suit and ties arrive safely before Saturday. He did give me the address of the friends apartment as mail sometimes does not get delivered/pickup right away at the post office on base. Have not quite figured out their system. I think one person from the class gets the mail or package notices, but if for some reason they get out of class late or just don't go by, then our kids don't get their mail. Should be an interesting weekend.

Terry, here's every best wish for the wedding. Not easy, I know, we married in Vegas because it was convenient. I have one picture, of our backs, we wore jeans. Second for us both, so the ceremony wasn't the big deal as it is for a younger couple. Hope it all works out to make them happy!

I never heard of families going to A school graduations until I came here. It seems very odd to us older sailors who have been out for years. I'd never thought for a moment anyone would attend mine; we stood in the hall and got certificates. But I understand the Power school graduation is quite the big deal.

MT is the new proposed rate which will combine ET and EM. My nephew thinks it will happen this fiscal year, but I have not been able to verify that. This would be for nukes only, as the fleet still needs the non-nuke ETs and EMs to continue doing their jobs. MMs, both nuke and non-nuke, will continue as they are.

I was a non-nuke ET. We made jokes about the nukes, they made jokes about us. No one's feelings got seriously hurt. There's always some gentle rivalry between rates, but at heart every sailor knows every job is important.

Hi Everybody: I know that this may be early - but our computer is a little cranky - we would appreciate prayers for our Brianna. She is 14 months old, and will have her cleft pallet surgery next Tuesday - the 10th. Thanks - my angel blessings ~~S {her Oma}

Namaste, Karen C.... I loved the Navy and it has been wonderful to three generations of us now ... dad, me and my nephew. Plus my hubby and a good friend who is now on the Dubuque were/are ETs. DeNephew is a nuke at Goosecreek, he's enjoying himself in A school.

(I'm just excited to see someone use "namaste"!)
