Hmm... well Wanda, since two hours is a week in N4M time, I'll try to get with the program :-) I think y'all have a pretty clear idea of the differences between Dads and Moms as far as letting go goes. It's eye-opening for me, following this site, while trying not to step in where it's not appropriate. There's definitely stuff us dudes need to steer clear of, especially the emotional support aspects of the site. This site is just so much more useful than the dad's site is, since there are a lot fewer guys on that site, and more significantly, we don't communicate as much (yea - that's news to you, right? lol). I hope y'all don't mind me lurking - I promise to remain respectful, and hopefully, useful.

As demanding academically as the nuc program is, the security clearance they need is relatively low level. Generally, the electronics rates for the non-nucs working in forward section of submarines require a higher security clearance, as do the officers on subs. I was a nuc ELT, and my son, who will probably be a sonar tech, will have a higher clearance than I had. The ET-communications guys probably have the highest clearances of the enlisted guys on board.

BarbaraJane, The same thing happened to my son with his security clearance. He is still doing T-track and waiting. Apparently something was not turned in by his recruiter. He did say that he should have inquired periodically but he thought it was taken care of. He was at the top of his class in A school and was anxious to move into Power School. He seems to be taking it in stride and it would seem I am more bummed than he is!! Pat

Katie--since they wait to "class up" for A school, you may find others joining soon who weren't in your boyfriend's PIR, but will be starting school together. I originally met a mom whose son was 2 weeks ahead of mine, but then they met when I invited him to Thanksgiving. As a matter of fact, they ended up going out to eat and hang out. So, you never know who you will meet and when!

Cassie's Mom, The delays are due to the prototype site in New York being shut down currently. The shipyard work should be done by this summer though, and with your daughter not starting BC until July, the pipeline should be running smoothly by the time she is finishing Power School.
