Right now there are 4 classes sitting up in NY doing nothing, so it isn't going to get any better. I will ask my son about the college credits - that might be something to do while he is sitting around twiddling his thumbs!!!! LOL!!!

To those that have sailors in Ballston Spa, keep waiting. They are on indefinate hold up there, and they are leaving them sit there cuz as of right now they can't send them back to GC.

My son was supposed to graduate prototype next month, and now they are saying MAYBE he will graduate in October. I think it is messing things up for GC as well. Oh well, I have learned to wait now. At least he was home for Christmas!!!!!

It isn't just the young ones. My good friend in the ET shop in Japan was in his 30s, he went back to the states for school and brought back a stripper wife with him. I mean, she'd been married THREE times before. She was just nasty and rude, I threw her out of my house for dropping her pants in front of my other guests. And she wasn't even pretty!

She meet him for lunch at the club, then when he'd go back to work, she'd wait for a guy off the Midway. .Sure enough, within a year, she divorced him and the command wouldn't let him be there for the pack out because she was available. She packed out everything except the futon mattress and his clothes. She even took the toilet paper. Whatta skank. Worse, she'd gotten knocked up by the Midway guy with twins, and tried to nail my friend for support.

Karen,
As a former nuke, I can say that you are absolutely correct, and your advice is spot on. This was an issue twenty years ago, and I suspect that it may be more of a concern for nukes, because they are such attractive "targets". It is just so hard for a young sailor with raging hormones and newly found independence to think sensibly in this area.

I'd have to see the Obama quote in context and cited before I'd give it any credence. People are always putting words in politician's mouths, all parties! I'm sure he'll be educated on the extent, and safety, of the Naval nuclear power program soon enough.

Wendy - I agree, but as far as what I said on here the other day - this is stuff they told my son. He said it is up on the board and everything. That is why I brought it up.

Regarding Obama's comments on Nuke's - he may be president, but he can't just shut stuff down - especially with the military. He might get stuff he wants, and he might be able to end the war at some point and stuff, but he still has to go through certain motions, and any president, I don't care which party they belong to - have to realize the jeopardy they will put us in by taking all the military stuff down.

Hi Kathryn,
Could it be that your son was talking about nuke job security after his Navy time? I'm not an Obama supporter, although I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, since he's done a number of things I am impressed with since winning the election. I do follow politics and current events very closely though, and he has not made any statements against nuclear powered Navy ships. He has made statements that he does not support building new nuclear power plants though, unless problems with waste disposal can be worked out. Since he is against the best solution to the problem (Yucca Mt. in Nevada), signs are not good for the commercial nuclear power industry. Nuclear power in the Navy is here to stay, with all US submarines and aircraft carriers powered by nuclear reactors. I think either you or he mis-heard something connected with his other remarks.
Happy New Year's back atcha
