southcarolinamom, adding to what Sandra just advised about letters ... DO NOT send a musical card! That will lead to many pushups for your sailor and lots of laughter from the R.D.s.  And if writing letters doesn't come easily to you, just clip out cartoons, sports articles, anything of interest (a la Reader's Digest material). No bad or sad news from home, just upbeat support and love. You'd be surprised how many sailors in BC get NO letters from home. They have a bit of precious free time on Sundays and letters are very much appreciated. (Can't believe BC was 2 years ago ...so glad it's over!).

my son damon is on ship 03 div 353 grad Nov 2....anyone have a young sailor in the same?

Comment by Sandra MM Nuke Mom on October 11, 2012 at 6:47pm

The other thing we figured out when my son left for BC was that he didn't know any phone numbers except for home, so if your son doesn't have the phone numbers memorized, then send him with that list so when they are allowed to call he has them handy!

Another note: they all enjoy receiving letters.  My son told me in his first personal letter (written 2-3 weeks into BC) that one of the things he looks forward to the most are letters from home.  So I wrote everyday, which can be challenging.  I had to get creative and had the dogs and cat write to him ever so often.  He also asked for pictures, I just sent 4x6 sizes ever so often.

Thanks again to everyone for all your info and support. I had to laugh at my son this morning as we had a LONG talk about what he wants sent to him after boot camp and what will be in the box he sends me FROM bootcamp. Apparently his shoes are VERY important to him and I have special instructions how to store them til I can send them back to him after boot camp LOL I bet we spend more on postage than the shoes are worth! lol. He thought he better warn me that when I get the box it will contain only shoes, no note or anything and "not to worry mom, cuz I know you worry alot about me, I'm not dead, just want to keep my shoes". oh my. lol Then he told me I BETTER NOT send anything to him in bootcamp except letters cuz they wont let them have cookies etc, they will eat them while the boys/girls do push ups. Hmmmm, didnt know that. Good thing he told me because I allready bought everything to  make homemade yummies. Guess I will just have to eat them all myself :) 11 days and counting

southcarolinamom:  Nevermind! I see your son is leaving soon.  Good luck.  Pass on what you learn!!

southcarolinamom:  My son hasn't left for BC either; I'm learning a lot here waiting for him to go.  When does your son leave?  Mine doesn't start until May 1.

good morning all!!

we will be staying at the villas in nov.  it is a three bedroom and for four nights it was $280.00.   hope this helps.   my sailor reserved it for us.

Caryatid...My son also has his PIR on 10/5.

SouthCarolinamom... I noticed that there are about 5-8 nukes per division at boot camp. All divisions have a variety of different rates in them.

Comment by Michimom (MM Nuke Mom) on October 10, 2012 at 8:19pm

Unless it's gone up since August 2011 (wow, it doesn't seem that long ago!), it's $79 for a 3-bedroom at the Villas.
