I made the carrot bread yesterday morning doubling the batch so I could send a loaf to work with my other son to share. It was a super hit! My husband was disappointed that the gradnkids had finished "his" loaf when he got home so I guess I'm making some more today!  LOL  Thanks for sharing the recipe :-)

By the way, Emily - I hope you and Aaron are enjoying Kitsap County so far.  As luck would have it, I was rear-ended by a Stennis sailor who compounded it by turning it into a hit and run a couple of weeks ago; he wasn't nuc material, clearly - lol.  Fortunately damage was real minor.

Thanks guys. I guess about three weeks til I hear from him?

We don't disagree Emily.  You make a good point, and I'm glad you did.  I chose the word "correlates" very carefully - it's kind of a nuc thang ;).  It just means that there is a statistical (out of a large sample) correlation between performance in training and performance in the fleet.  It doesn't mean, as you point out, that that is necessarily the case in individual cases.  It only means that there is a statistical correlation that isn't random.

Peggy GC stands for Goose Creek.  It is just north of Charleston.  Some people say Charleston, others say Goose Creek.

Comment by Johanna on June 15, 2012 at 10:22pm
Hey Peggy, my son was a grad hold for 2 months and then went to Charleston. He was a pro at scru bing tiled bathroom floors, taking watch and doing LOTS of sit-ups and pushups! But I have to say, he never once complained. He would tell us, "I will move on when the Navy says I should move on!" It's ok if they are GH, they get to Charlestown. eventually!
Comment by Peggy on June 15, 2012 at 10:21pm
Thanks. Do some go to GC and some Charleston SC?
Comment by Emily-aaronsgirl11 on June 15, 2012 at 10:19pm

Mark- I agree that performance matters. But I don't agree that performance in training corresponds to performance in the fleet. Aaron did terribly in Prototype. Struggled through the whole way and was constantly depressed. He's done great in the fleet though! He's never been on plus hours, and he's recently been about 50% ahead of the curve for his qualifications. It's been his chance to start over. While some of the other guys that he knows who did better in Prototype are on plus hours and behind the curve.

So just because some of your sons are struggling in school does not mean they will be as depressed/down out in the fleet. The hours (at least at Aaron's command) while in port are MUCH much better than the hours at Prototype and even Power School.

Peggy-My son just graduated basic 06/01. He left Saturday for GC. I had him from graduation until @ 7pm Friday. You can hang w/them at the airport and give them laptops, phone, boxers, etc.

NancyJo - You can add nuts or raisins to the carrot bread.  I never tried coconut.  I think it would change the consistency too much.  The bread does stand alone though.  It is very popular with my family. Good luck!
