Mnozell48 - yes, I am sure that was me.  We live about 45 minutes from O'Hare, so we stayed until they were about to go through security.  We had the gate passes, but didn't see the need to be the only parents with all of them.  I figured they were boarding the plane as soon as they got through security.  Yes, I think only about 3 set of parents were there.  Everyone thought they were leaving on Saturday, so they had already left Chicago.  It was really great standing and talking to the other sailors.  We talked about this website and how we knew more about their training and what was coming than they did.

Thanks doreen and coloradomom. It helps just to have some idea of what to expect. I checked out the nuke school website and feel good about knowing more of where he will be. This site has been great, but also makes me miss him like crazy!!  My daughter got a note from him today and he said he is going to have 10 day leave after A school. Do your kids have the same?

Coloradomom, where do you live? If you cant share that you can email me: californiakelleys@yahoo.com. I grew up in Northglenn. Left for CA when I was 21 and now live in TX!!  Colorado is still home to me, tho.

Doreen

you weren;t the lady that I passed around 4am were you >? I was there at 430 to drop off my sons phone and ipod for the trip, we were on our way to Midway.

Comment by Doreen-ProudNavyMom on March 8, 2012 at 9:50pm

Sorry, my son left on Sunday morning at 5:40 a.m.  I shouldn't have wrote a time for Saturday because I didn't know what time they left on their flights.  I meant they left for the airport early Saturday morning.  The man from the USO said there were 300 people there Saturday, fortunately we only had 24.  We got to sit in the USO because it was empty.

Comment by ColoradoMom Nuke ET on March 8, 2012 at 8:42pm

The Nukes left in shifts last week - it seems by brother divisions (or some similar). While some left early Saturday morning (per doreen), my Nuke and the others in his division and brother division didn't leave until 5:00pm Saturday.  I think there was at least one group in between.

But, definitely plan on them leaving sometime Saturday.

My son graduated last Friday.  Most left early Saturday morning.  24 nukes left at 5:40 a.m. on Sunday for Charleston.  I guess it all depends.  The only problem is he had to stand watch from 12 - 4 p.m. on Saturday so we just got a few more hours with him, but it was more than most parents got.  Now he is settled in his room in Charleston until he starts classes in a couple weeks.

Thanks, Rachel. The navy site said they usually leave the day after, but I was just hoping... :) my hubby and I dont leave until Sun, so if he does have Sat, that would be awesome. How soon before PIR did you find out?

Comment by Navy Mom x3 on March 8, 2012 at 7:21pm

31mom... mine just PIR'd in January and was at the airport at 4am on Saturday.  With all of the snow on Friday, they cut liberty short and they had to be back by 7 that night.  We met him at O'Hare and got passes to get thru security so we could spend more time with him. With flight delays, we spend all day Saturday at the airport and part of Sunday.  Luckily, our flight home was out of Milwaukee on Monday.
