Suebeehoney - it is pretty much anything goes at Power School graduation.  But one thing is to dress in layers.  It can be anywhere from very very chilly to warming up a little later.  On 12/2 we had to chip ice off the chairs!!  Brrrrrr

It took me a long time to figure out why it was so tough on our sailors with the grueling days, the back to back watches, the foul language, etc.  At first it made me made upset to think MY son was being subjected to that, but then after I asked my son about it he told me that was the only way to weed out the sailors...that there has to be a certain amount of attrition to make sure that only the strongest will survive (sounds like nature, huh??!!).  Now don't get me wrong, many of the sailors that didn't make it doesn't mean that they were weak by any means.  I've known some of them that didn't make it BUT also have seen those go on into other areas of the Navy and excelled outside of the constant stress.  Every single one of these kids work their butts off and have succeeded in ways that only a few "regular people" ever will have the opportunity to experience.  We need to be proud of every single one of them whether they make it to the fleet as a Nuke or not...they deserve our prayers, for sure.

hello all!!

heather--so sorry to hear about your mom.  i wish there was something i could say to help you.  know God is with you and your family.

suebal---congrats to your son for "tacking on his crow"   my son said the same thing about leave.  he too is waiting till after power school.

my son will graduate power school in july.   i bet it is pretty warm down there then. can anyone tell me just how hot it may be?

My son texted me today...he's "tacking his crow on" his dress blues on Friday. He's now 3rd Class Petty Officer. Hot dam! 2 weeks from Thursday I'm heading up to Goose Creek for his A-school grad. He isn't taking leave, yet.  He wants to build up a bit of a "leave bank" so that he can "spend some real time at home between Power and Proto. He told me "Mom, the hard work is paying off." I love my sailor!.

Suebeehoney, I went with nice casual & wore good jeans & a blazer with my black leather boots. I saw others more dressed up & some pretty casual. It was chilly for my son's power school graduation in the beginning of February. It did get pretty warm by afternoon.

Dramaboysmom - I'm not in a position to have any hard info, and if I did, it would be tricky to address it because of OPSEC.  Suffice to say, the prototypes got pretty far behind for a couple of reasons a couple of years ago, and there just isn't enough capacity to catch up quickly.  That is unlikely to change for anyone currently in the pipeline.  Just remember that impatient as they (and you) are to get to the fleet at this point, which is natural - fact is, their personal lives are much more enjoyable while they are still in the training pipeline, compared to when they reach a boat or ship.

suebeehoney (that nickname makes me smile .. my dad was a Seabee and the wives were called honeybees) ... dress for power school grad (I went in October 2011) is .. anything goes. Some moms/sisters/girlfriends/grandmas were decked out to the nines, in beautiful dresses, heels, big hair. Others wore jeans and t's. I wore a pantsuit and hubby wore an oxford shirt, khaki's and a blazer.Son's girlfriend wore a cute short dress and heels.  Grad is  held outside and you'll be walking mostly on pavement/sidewalks with a little bit of grass. Can't go wrong wearing "church casual or church dress-up"!

Heather,

I am so sorry for your loss!

Question out to the Moms who have been to power school grad. What is the "Dress Code"
