CindyLouT-Tracks, I am also on the FB page, but worry about it just like you.  It is funny how the two sites are similar yet different discussions.  I would hate for everyone to only be on FB, because I really needed this site for a long time while I was getting used to the idea of my son enlisting.  I lurked and watched for ages, and then added a few bits and pieces to the conversation before finally my son arrived in GC.  I have learned and experienced so much here and hope that we always retain the richness of the posts for future Moms & Dads

Bunker QB... I am already on the FB group. I am still careful not to give out certain info for fear that there are posers on there hoping and waiting to get information. I figured anyon can be on N4M posing and get invited on FB. I just read your post stating that the administrator checks you out. Do they have a way to verify that your sailor is really in the Navy and Nuke program? If so, I feel so much better about the FB page. I must admit, I was a little concerned about the shared information on there.

To those trying to get into the FB group:

1) Send a friend request HERE on THIS site to Penny, mm linda or Kat. You do this by clicking on their photo/icon. When the profile page opens up, you'll "Add as Friend", click on this. A little box will open up, you can add a short personal message (with your FB name, your sailor's name and name of his boat), then hit send. The recipient of your friend request will have to accept your request. If you see "Send a message" instead of "Add as Friend", then it means you are friends with that person already. Just click "Send a message" and make your request to join the FB group providing the above info.

2) The admins on the FB Nuke Moms secret/private group will check you out and send you a FB friend request, after you accept, you'll be added to the group.

There are three categories to FB groups

    a) open - name of group, members, contents all open to public

    b) closed - name of group & members open to public, contents NOT

    c) secret - name of group, members, contents are ALL not visible

The Nuke Moms is a c) a secret, private group. Please note when you are on FB, a posting from your secret group will NOT show up on your wall, so it won't be visible even to your friends. Your groups will be listed on the left column. Be careful when you are posting something on your personal wall that is Navy related because all your friends can see these comments.

Ledbetter Lisa, please click on Settings (on the upper right), your Navy 4 Moms profile page will open up. Edit your USERNAME to something that can not  identify you or your sailor. None of us have our real first and last names. Click save.  Lisa, it appears more complicated than it needs to be but it's for everyone's protection, especially the sailor. Your should find a similar group for your sailor boat. The ombudsman (spouse of a senior officer) should be the admin for that group.

Hope this helps.

ledbetterlisa - send a private message on here to me, Penny, mn linda.  give us your name on facebook on the private message, then we can send you a friend request on facebook.

Just got a letter from my daughter in boot and she wants me to figure out the 400 mile distance for liberty (once she phases up of course). According to mapquest home is 396 miles from Goose Creek. Will she be able to come home or do they figure the distance differently? Thanks for your help.

Comment by LedbetterLisa on January 12, 2012 at 11:42pm

That could be A problem since I am not friends with any of them. What is the page called and I will look for it?

Comment by mn linda (nuke MM ELT Groton CT) on January 12, 2012 at 11:40pm

To be added to the facebook group, you need to be friends with someone in the group on facebook so they can invite you to join the group.
